Cleaning plexiglass
(1/1)
Nemss316:
I was told to use rubbing alcohol when cleaning Plexi. Mine just has some spots on it I want to remove, I just wanted to make sure this is the method to use.

Thanks!
TelcoLou:
I wouldn't do it! I use a paper towel with a mild diluted soap & water mixture on it.
Pac-Fan:
No you shouldn't -- You don't know if it's acrylic (lucite) or polycarbonate based. One is much more reactive to alcohol than the other IIRC.  You will end up creating a dull cloudy haze over it.

Luckily, if caught early, you can remove it with some Novus but that takes a lot of hand polishing and can warp the light passing through (especially noticeable if used over a monitor)

Just use warm water and most home cleaners that are not alcohol, citrus or oil based.  Stuff like 409, Simple Green, Windex all work well.

There are a handful of citrus cleaners that can work to remove sticky stuff but must be tested in a corner first to be sure it wont damage the plastic.
