It was only that one game though, but it was enough to make me stick with x86 since I had no issues with it.  I suppose I should see if there is any real performance gain to be there and just how much it is.

desktop 3.6ghz q600 w/ 4gb ram

good to hear its working out for you though.

In general you will see about a 25% increase in performance in Mame64.  However, the beauty is having the option.  You could run the 32 bit mame for everything and it should perform exactly the same as it would under a 32bit OS. Then you have the option to just run 64-bit Mame for CHD games (or whatever) where you need the bonus speed.  If you dont have a 64-bit OS, you dont have the option.

Yeah I know, I use 64bit mostly for the 4gb ram barrier more so than native x64 applications.  Though I do have a custom compiled version of x264 for 64bit and its about 15% faster than x86 versions of it.  a big ultra high quality encode with x264 can take like 6 hours with all 4 cores maxed out 100% @ 3.6ghz so even 10% is a big difference.

Like I said though I have not had any game not run full speed yet in x86 but soon as I tried x64 Mame I had the very first game I tried have some sound/skipping issues that did not exists in x86 mame and thats the reason that I use x86 now even though I can use x64.

I have both .exe on my computer and I have a custom batch file I can run to use both of them at any time, I just have no reason to use the x64 version currently.

Yup...I got about 25% increase across the board going from Windows XP to Windows XP x64...

I'm not sure what your saying, are you saying that the drivers and emu's work, so it's a pain to work with?

or are you saying the drivers and emu's work with windows 7?

just a little confused on your wording

No, in my testing most emus and drivers seem to work quite well under Windows 7 x64.

XP x64 driver support is lacking for the most part.

I am personally going to wait for Windows 7 x64 to be released before I update to MAME 64.  The only thing keeping me from doing it right now is that Daemon Tools is not yet supported under Windows 7.

I'm just curious as to what specifically you are having problems with?  I know people have said light guns have a problem.  Its not like you are using printers and fax modems on a dedicated arcade machine (at least I think).

Everything Ive thrown on my XP64 has worked out of the box as well as it does on XP32.  The only thing that really gave me a headache was getting Mamewah to work, but even that I got figured out without too much fiddling.
