Which Spinner?

Tempest is a good test, set the analog sensitivity to 6 (this is the setting recommended by RandyT)
spin as fast as you can in one direction if it goes the right way you have no backspin, if it spins the wrong way initially then goes the right way that is Backspin

I'll have to give that a try. Where are you setting the sensitivity, in Mame or in Windows?

in mame hit tab then go to analog controls\analog sensetivity
also inder controls make sure that analog dial incline and decline are set to "none" those are for digital emulaton and mess with anolog control (thanks to u_rebelscum for that info)
