Which Pin has the most 'Action'/Gimmicky Stuff on the Playfield?
« on: February 25, 2009, 11:09:18 pm »
I don't have extensive knowledge on Pinballs but have been looking at alot of the ones (online) which people find popular.

That creeping itch in the back of my head says one day I will get a real pin....if so I think I'd like one with alot of shoots, holes, ramps, lights and overall crazy funstuff on the playfield!

Which ones do you think have the most of that type of stuff on a Pinball machine?

Addams Family seems like it has alot...

The 2 Pin2000 machines are in a leaugue of their own with that video image they have there and videogame like quality but I think I would want one slighly more traditional...but just slightly!

Hands down, that has to be Twilight Zone. Addam's isn't even close to being in the gimick/toy league of TZ.

TZ certainly has a lot of mods that can be done to it but there are a lot of games that have neat and unique toys.

I remember the first couple times I played TZ I HATED it because it just too much at once. The only reason I went back to it was because I love the show. Once you figure out a couple shots to get it off the lower playfield it gets really fun.

Addams has a lot to do but you can actually tell there's a pinball machine under all the toys on the playfield.

Shadow doesn't have as many as you'd think... two ramps, the brick target, and an upper playfield.  That probably puts it in the average to upper average as far as DMD games go.  Definitely less than Demolition Man and many of the modern Sterns.

The undisputed king is definitely TZ.  I sold mine because I just couldn't deal with all the crap on the playfield.  If it's not TZ it's probably Popeye.

Yeah, but the ramps have the interactive diverters.

True, that's one more toy, or two if you count them separately.

If you think Sterns have a lot of interactive toys I think you haven't played one since Lord of the Rings.

There's a distributor with a storefront not far from me so thankfully I get to play them all when they come out.  Spiderman has toys, Family Guy/Shrek has toys, 24 has toys, CSI has toys, the Dark Knight has toys, and the games before LOTR do still exist.  There are probably more overall Stern DMD games with toys than without.

Interactive toys, not ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- bolted to the playfield.   :P

It's all ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- bolted to the playfield in my eyes whether it moves or not.  I'm not a fan of random crap there for little or no reason.

Family Guy has toys?  What exactly?  A crappy mini-playfield?

That's a pretty big toy considering it has its own balls and everything.

Wow thanks all I'm hunting down those VP tables so I can check them out as we speak....

Twilight Zone seems to have one of the most toys eh? Isn't that one of the more expensive pins to own too? Doh! That's the way things tend to work too!

Well if you had to pick a second 'king of toys' which would you choose? (not budget wise just overall toy factor)

Thanks and keep them coming...I love toys on tables and as a possible first pin it has to have as much on the table as possible  ;D

When I look at the HEP pics of TZ's I just want to make out with my monitor.

That machine is beautiful & oh man I gotta stop talking about it.

Medieval Madness has a friggin' "exploding" castle.  Of course, a nice one goes for around $8000.

Indiana Jones(the original) has the Path of Adventure playfield, the Idol ball lock two ramps with some airplanes that don't really do much.

TOM has a spinning truck with mags. Under the pf mags. 2 ramps with a mag up top and there are some cool mods you can buy to make the saw spin which leads me to the captive balls there as well. There is also the trapped door.

I mean there is really a lot of games with a lot of great toys if you think about it.

That's a matter of preference.  A lot of us prefer less toys.  I definitely prefer pre-dmd games.  The sys11 style era, with advanced layouts but not so many toys and no DMD to distract you, is probably my favorite.  That would be followed by the one right before that.  There are a lot of really good games that get ignored simply because too many pinball people won't play anything without a DMD.

I like the balance of toys and ramps on TOM.  The spinning trunk is fun.

Toys are worthless if not implemented well into the playability of the game.

I think we need to better define a toy here. I consider a 'toy' to be a functional part of the pinball that is innovative, and effects gameplay somehow.

I DO NOT consider action figures randomly bolted to the plastics to be toys. Those are decorations...crappy decorations in most cases. Someone should tell Gary Stern this.

Anything that's not a pinball part bolted to the playfield is a toy to me.  Random functional crap included.  Most of them suck and are failure prone over time.  Demo Man is a great example.  If I wanted to play a crane game I'd play a crane game.

DMD games are hands down the best in my opinion; they are possibly the only pinball games I will ever buy.

Well, I prefer DMD pins, although, I do not often look at the Dmd.
Usually only when there is an intermission set (ball is locked up),  and when there are
video modes to play  :)    But its nice for others when they watch as well.

Many old EM games had their own versions of the DMD..  Usually to do with
animated figures.   Such as a game where actual baseball figures run actual
bases.  Or one pin actually has matchbox type cars that roll around an oval track
inside the backbox as you get points.  Its cool as heck. (the animated games
sell for big money)

Toys can be good.. but they can be bad too.   Such as a toy that does not do
anything at all.. or does not add to the gameplay.   Sterns batman race car setup
is an example of what Not to do.   While Williams Magic Trunk on TOM is great.
My fav toy, is probably Williams Indiana Jones "Path of Adventure".  The castle in
MM is also an Awesome toy.  (It has much more functionality than the exploding
animation mentioned)  The moving target 'Dracula' on monster bash is another
one.  Very challenging and fun.  I cant see how chad would disagree with that...
unless he hasnt played such a working machine in good shape.

One should never buy a game based on the number of toys.  The gameplay is
most important.

IMOP, TZ is horrible.  I dont care how many toys are on it..  The ball flow is very
Stop-Start.  Very slow playing.  Not very much fun to me.   But there are a lot
of people that grew up on that show, and like that theme, so I think they overlook
the rest...
