Project Heavy Metal
« on: February 22, 2009, 12:29:31 pm »
Well I think i have lurked enough. Its time for me to pop up and say hello with my first project. I was finally able to talk my wife into letting me start up my first project.

We nicknamed the project "Heavy Metal" not for the only reason that I love the movie but also for the sheer girth this thing has so far.

It started with drawing up plans for a revision of a Lucid cabnit but shortly after changed into a showcase cabinet, because of the monitor I got for a dirt cheap price.

Features:
- Cabinet and CP are framed in 2x4.
- Cover in 3/4" MDF
- 3" Electric Ice-T trackball with RGB backlit
- 36" gateway presentation CRT monitor with TV and VGA input.
- Sliding CP so it takes up less space when not used.
- Computer Home Built
  - AMD 4400+
  - 4 Gig of Ram Using
  - Win XP

I'm sure there are more i will add as i go as things have changed daily as the build goes.

I will start posting pictures once i figgure out how in the world to do the thumbnail thing everyone ulse uses .

-=Steve

Not usually crazy about non-arcade game themes, but Heavy Metal is one that I think works pretty well.
There is another cab from a couple years ago with the same theme. It's very well done. Have you seen it?

It's in the Hall of Fame.  http://bellsouthpwp2.net/g/c/gcnewsome/finished.html

Good start on the cabinet.  You are fortunate to have the room for something like that!

Not much new this week so far its been really cold here and working outside would be nuts. I did sneak out for a few hours today and work on the CP. And also have lined up a couple artists to do some of the artwork on the cabinet.

After a bad past few days with flooding in the garage and figid weather i finally broke down and picked up a couple heaters for the garage and was able to finally button up the CP and attach it to the base. Tomarrow i have to figgure out how I want to attach the top of the CP and start cutting the MDF for all the sides :)
