 A long time ago I had the idea to use Polarized film on the glass.  However,
Id never got round to it. 
 
 They must be using the same tech as glare-proof coating on eye glasses.

 Pretty darn awesome...  Though Ill have to stick to trying the film someday.
Thats way out of justifiable reason for just a sheet of glass.

That is pretty neat. This stuff would have a real market at around $100-$150, but I agree $300 is just way too much. I wonder how it looks in person? I know I've been thoroughly frustrated on many occasions by glare on a poorly placed route pin.

Personally I think glass glare is 'part of the game'.  It really doesn't take much in the way of ambient lighting to cut down on it, either.  Throw a string of christmas lights on the wall behind the pins and you're good to go.

You missed the whole point of the post. Who gives a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- about the price, he was showing a comparison video, which is indeed very impressive. I wouldn't have even known the price of the glass if you hadn't posted it, and it really didn't matter. This was meant as a 'proof of concept'.

So yes, you took a huge dump all over the thread and contaminated the whole conversation. Congrats.

Yes, the glass looks neat, but the very first thing you say after 'that looks neat' is 'how much does that cost'. 

And last I saw on RGP was $300/sheet and they needed a huge pre-order.

Beyond that, there's a lot of questions about how he's achieving the anti-glare effect and latest word was that he was ducking the questions.  I've got a feeling that this stuff scratches very easily and looks horrible afterwards.

There are people on RGP that will spend a ton of money on delicate items that can't ever really be used, so he'll sell a few of these.


Your comment about plopping money in a game under obnoxious lighting is a moot point - this stuff will NEVER be installed on a location game.  If the glare on a location game bugs you THAT much, don't play it.  You've blown 50 cents on much worse.

You should have supplied that valid information from RGP in the first place instead of assuming we were all 'in' on the joke.

Anyway.
1) I was signalling a product that I think looks amazing. It's innovative and solves a long time problem.
Price is of consideration at a later level only. Also, I only own 1 pinball machine and I wouldn't mind spending that money to get rid of the glare that ALWAYS has annoyed me. Especially now I'm getting a bit older and my eyes are not getting better.
SO, to you maybe it's a waste of money, but too me it's a life saver.

2) the price is NOT 300 bucks. It's €142.80 for a standard sheet, €155 for a widebody.
That converts to $179 standard, $195 for a widebody.

A regular sheet of pinball glass costs €39.50 ovehere, that's $50 (Maybe there are cheaper sellers, I don't know, I just looked up the first pinball parts shop in Holland that I could find).

So, all in all it's about 100 euro extra, triple the price of a normal sheet.


I do not know where that 300 bucks comes from, but maybe they calculated shipping from Germany to the US ? Anyway, I'm pretty sure this could be produced overthere too.

This is a small initiative. It's not like he ordered a 1000 of these things. ANY special made item will cost more. I've had two sets of grey colored SW cockpit canopy plexi's made. I'm very sure they cost a lot more than what Atari charged for it......still, I think it was worth every cent.

3) I wonder if you see a guy driving a Porsche or Bentley, do you also kick him in the balls ?

 If it is the anti-glare that is made for glasses... it
very well wont last on the inside of a machine - where the ball at times is
launched into the glass.

 As for the top?  Well, that would really depend on if you have children... and or
how good you are about keeping people from leaning on it with their jewlery.
As well as how delicately you clean it.

 From what Ive experienced... I got a pair of overpriced glasses at the mall, and
the coating scratched off in a weeks time with very little effort done to deserve it.

 However, I later went to another place, which told me that the mall stores use
a quick process that does not do a good job bonding the coating.  The new
glasses Ive gotten are a over 2yrs old and the coating hasnt scratched off.
(Im also pretty hard on them.. using my shirt to clean them instead of a special
cloth)

 I also have doubts that a sheet of glass would survive the trip from Germany to a
usa doorstep. 

 I agree. 100$ range is feasible. More than that is just too much.

Level42, I don't know where you got $179 and $195.  The price as given on RGP is OVER $300.

Here is the excerpt:

It is really cool and I would love to have a piece on my Indiana Jones but $315 or close for a piece of glass is just wacky.  Remember, A standard piece of tempered glass can be had for under $50.

Get it down to $150 delivered and I'd make the stretch though.

Being that there are no TV's made in America that use the stuff it has to be imported.  Not to mention cut to the specific pinball size.

Yeah but come on, this is America! We can get anything here... I would be really suprise to know that this can't be obtain throw cheaper means... Maybe I can give "One Day Glass" a call, they did my arcade cab glass.
