Arc[P]ade : First build of an arcade machine (Completed)
« on: February 08, 2009, 05:37:00 pm »
Hello,

I will post slowly all step of my first project of Arcade. The project will use 2 U360 Joystick, normal pushbutton from Ultimarc too and an IPac2.

So far, a friend of mine have printed my photoshop marquee and control board and I have started to build the controller.

Here is the controller drawing printed on high quality paper.

Here is the marquee... the problem is that it has some frost on it because of the cold temperature arggg... but when it's in front of the light, it doesn't appear, I'll contact him to know if I can put some water on it to take it off... it was printed on high quality back-light paper...

And this is what I made so far this weekend :

All is made on 5/8 MDF to light the machine. The machine is 26 inches wides BUT the controller panel has 36 inches... the controller will be snapped-on/off... this way I will be able to move it easily.

I'll post more picture later.

Currenlty I have about 40 hours of planning, photoshop and about 10 hours of work on the wood and plexiglass, shopping for material... I had some problem doing the hole in the MDF, I was a lot harder that I though.

See you later.

Now added the plexi and the picture. Started to add the pushbuttons and to wire everything. The two U360 as been not installed with screw but with glue! Since it was fitting tight in the hole, the glue was enought.

The wiring took about 4 hours. I have started to do the box under this control panel about 2 hours.

Total at this moment is 16 hours (without the planning).

Interested to see what side art you use to bring the marquee and cp together. They both look awesome. But the marquee is so dominated by Hulk...

The font is Comic Book and you can get it for free here.

The marquee has a Hulk darker in the background. The title of the arcade is lighter. It has been printed on speacial paper for backlight so, when the light goes on you see a lot more the title and hulk is more deeper in the back. When I will be at that step, I'll show you  ;) :)

Here is the part that goes under the controller.

I used only glue to hold the whole thing.

This is the wiring.

For a first time, I think it's clean... I might try to find something to attach a little bit more.

Here is some update of the project:

Parts has been cut. I have started to glue everything but I decided to put some screws just to have something stronger. I will try to find something to hide the screw. ANY IDEA?

Here is what I have now :

Here is the speaker taken from an old movie theater system:

If any of you have a suggestion to hide the screws, feel free to give me some hint.

You used glue to mount your U360s?

Why not? The hole for the U360 is very tight and the plexi over it make it not moving. The glue is just to make sure it stays in place. What's wrong?

The glue will fail. As long as you didn't use too much, you can try it like this now and later if it becomes a problem - you can figure up something else. I don't top mount my joysticks just because when I need to replace them or work on them, it's too much work.

Your work looks good. Keep it up.

You might be right. For the moment I have about 10 hours of play with the controller board... all look fine... maybe around 100 hours it will be less effective and it will fail but well... it's written it can handle 2000 pounds :P we will see in the future ;)

Here is some picture from the last 2 weeks.

The keyboard and mouse will be hidden here with a push door.

Here is the controller that will be removable if needed to move the arcade machine.

Speakers.

Trying to glue the T-Molding with Epoxy. I haven't use the router on the control board because the plexiglass was already there... my mistake!

This is how the monitor will be stand up.

This is the machine with the Primer only.

I like the recessed control box. That admin tray for the keyboard/mouse - good idea with the push release!

Your CP and marquee look awesome!  That thing is begging for a bigger monitor though...

So, please forgive my ignorance, but I guess I don't "get" the name.  What does the "[P]" in Arc[P]ade stand for?

Again, nice work...

For the [P] is a trademark I have. About everything I have do have this ;)

Here is a new software addition I just made : A press button logger for the arcade. Here is the result screen:

The first number is the number pressed today, and the second number is the number pressed over all. This will gave me some statistic on every button and will give me a good idea on how many quarter I would have used ;)

For the track ball, when I have designed the board I haven't think of any arcade game that I like that use one. I still do not regret it yet.

Thanks for all good words guy.
