Strangest problem with my KeyWiz
(1/2) > >>
SirPeale:
I only really started using my KeyWiz over the last week, as I finally got sick of BUILDING the cab, instead of PLAYING the cab.  So, I threw it all together.  It's in no way done, but it's playable.

Anyway, I've noticed on some games I can't insert a coin.  I've got it wired up correctly, this I know.  I can insert a coin in many games.  But...let's say I start a game of 'Space Invaders.'  I can't coin up.  I can do it if I hook up a real keyboard, but not with the KeyWiz.

There were several other games I noted that did the same thing, but this is the last one that I remember doing it.

I did check to make sure the keys are mapped correctly for this game.  They are.

What could be going on?
SirPeale:
Slight update: I can now use that slot.  I tried another game earlier (of course now that I'm in front of the computer, I forget which one) and it did the same thing, but allowed me to use the other slot (6)

So I went back to Space Invaders, and tried it.  Nothing.  Then I tried slot 1 (5) and it worked.  Very strange.
IIOIOOIOO:
I had one input that just plain didn't work. Also, I've decided I'm not a big fan of the function+stick-right or function+stick-left to change between keysets. Ends up happening way too often, or at least for me. But otherwise, it worked exactly as I had hoped.

Now I just have to figure out if the input latency is coming from the Keywiz or from MAME itself. You don't notice it in most games, but you sure do in fighters.
SirPeale:
I think I may have figured it out; I think I wired the coin slots backwards.  A lot of games, although they had two coin slots, they were wired up to the same input.  I could be wrong about that, but I switched the wires, and it seems to be working okay now.

Suggestion:  If you run across a game with only one coin slot input, set MAME so Coin 1 is "5 or 6" through the ctlr.ini or Input This Game menu.  Now either coin button will work with the game.
