Son of a ---smurfette---!

Auto rotating monitor based on game selection, swappable panels, futuristic design, iron man looking coin slots...........

Whats next, when you play Tapper does a tapper handle and icy cold mug extend out and automatically fill up an fresh brew for you?

This is a mame cabinet someone in the year 2120 could be proud of.

Keep up the good work.

I've seen a lot of great projects on here that make my cabinet look jealous, but this takes the cake.

Wow that is impressive.  Very nice work and great thought process.

I really like the way that looks.  The advantage of being able to highlight the buttons but not going overboard with fully lighted ones.

You might want to patent that idea quick.

Franco, if you can make +real+ metal button tops, I may need to talk to you  :)

I've refinished the plastic buttons with metal spray paint and the results are quite nice, BUT real metal... Oh yeah!

Great project!

I like the idea with edge lit buttons.  :applaud:

I could rip out a bunch of those frosted inserts on the CNC if you need it, could save a bunch of time.

The thing I like about this idea, is that this could be done to happ competition buttons, which have a convex top and are made of a softer, better feeling material then some of the currently available pre-lit buttons.

What is that black tube you used and I assume you also just glued that do the pronged button base?  These look badd ass for sure!

I have a few sheets of frosted blue acrylic, this will look pretty sweet using that....

drventure: I think if you made a simple set of dies from pieces of hardwood, you could stamp out button tops from thin copper sheets sold at Hobby Lobby and the like. With a red or blue light shining out from under that your buttons would look amazing. Maybe even drill holes around the circumference so the light comes out there instead of all around, it would look very steampunk.... :burgerking:

Been a while since I looked at any arcade projects.  This one is being added to my notification list.  Where do you get that spray putty?  I see so many applications for that stuff.

I've thought for a while that taking an MDF cab to an auto painter for an honest to god automotive metallic paint finish would be stunning. Your cab seems to beg for that treatment.

I've thought for a while that taking an MDF cab to an auto painter for an honest to god automotive metallic paint finish would be stunning. Your cab seems to beg for that treatment.

I did my cab with automotive paint, the trick was getting the wood really well sealed so that the paint could be lightly wet sanded. I did have one small area get some moisture into the end grain but overall it turned out really nice... IIRC a total of 14 coats of sealer primer, finish primer, paint and clear coat.

Oh and 1967 Mustang Midnight Metalic Blue color formula FTW

Keep this up and you will beat Pixelhugger to the finishline with an amazing cab

Finally here is a sketch showing the upper cabinet framework surrounding the monitor assembly.

So...theory is all well and good - time to put it into practice.
Oh wow, can't wait to see that part! But from what I've seen so far, I'm sure you'll not only be able to pull it off, but perfectly as well!  :notworthy:

damn that is so cool!

is there some round object you can find that you can use a base for the shell?
seems like that would be easier than constructing that frame you have there, not that you have taken the easyway on anything on this project so far ;)

is holding torque how much pressure it takes to move it when the motor is stopped?

can't wait to see this running!

When you find the gears you plan to use, could you post the details?

I'm looking for similar gears for my cab and haven't had a whole lotta luck.

Right now, I'm leaning towards a motorcycle chain and sprocket assembly, but I think nice big brass gears would be better.
