I wasn't sure what to think yesterday when you mentioned it but now that I see it I like the kick plate.

That speaker grill looks fantastic.  It reminds me of Obi Wan's hyperdrive in EP2 except cooler.   :applaud:

Not a big fan of the diamond plate, and I think those front corners need protecting as well. Have you considered the clear automotive protective film to protect the finish from people's feet?

Agreed. All the other metal pieces are slick, smooth, and shiny, and the diamond plate doesn't match that. A smooth panel would fit better aesthetically.

How about some flashy chrome "bumpers" to protect the surface paint. Something like this:

That's nice, the render is better too.  I prefer the renders when the cab doesn't look like it's coated in baby oil.

Great to see you're back OND, and like the bumper kick plate approach - though think this build should be in a gallery as a work of art, not actually being played -makes me shudder in same vain as the thought of Van Gogh's Starry Night being hung at waist height in a kids nursery

 - completely disagree with Le Chuck re the Baby oil render, I like it better than the matt.

Concept render with improved bumper-kick plate, I think this suits better.  Next - cutting out the pieces for speaker grills.

I also approve on the reduced amount of baby oil used in the renders.

As for the new bumper-kick plate, "improved" doesn't do justice to how well it flows with the rest of the design.

That plate makes me think of the nozzle end of a rocket, which adds on an entirely new level of coolness.

Hey Ond! Great build!  I'm a big fan of the red finish you've achieved here and now I'm looking to buy the putty/primer/paint you used.  The K&N stuff is easy enough to find but the PowerPaint stuff is a little more elusive.  Could you point me to where you bought it?

Thanks man! Keep up the great work.

Just watching the silent crowds stream through...........................

I can write.  Well, probably not as good as that guy that wrote a book, but you know I speak the lingo...probably best served in an editorial capacity really.  So....is the screen touch?  Because that would make the juke function like a jillion times better with that skin you have.

And, uh... more pics of the cab bro!

Has anyone found a source for that spray putty in Canada?  I'd even settle for someplace in 'merica if someone has an equivalent brand name or source.

After seeing the plastic like shine that Ond got on this cabinet, I needs me some of that.

I have been watching and reading this thread for a number of years now, and the innovation and skill employed in the design and execution is second to none, awe inspiring, and truly a work of art, which carries on into the user interface - simply stellar.

I hope you gain as much pleasure out of playing on it as you have had in building it.

I will at some point actually start my Woody copy, which I will finish to the best of my ability, I am no artist but I can appreciate greatness when I see it, I have a few ideas about some twists I can try and integrate into my cabinet which I also fully intend to enjoy playing on, along with introducing some classic games to my kids.

I take my hat off to you for a build that looks every bit as good, if not better than your original renders

I recently gave featherfill G2 a try and AWESOME.... This is a automotive grade product (in a can) but this stuff was half the money, mixed like fiberglass resin, with the hardener, and covered like liquid putty. One drawback is it also kicked liked resin, and gelled in my gun.... Mix, spray, and clean your gun. All in all it gave a incredibly high build.

Hey Ond.  I'm new here and about to start my first arcade cab project.  First off the work you have done here is amazing.  If I can even achieve .01% of that quality I will be happy.  The questions I have are, on the photo above, are you using the bondo on the edges or is that the spray putty (which is impossible to find in the US) and it looks as though you routed the edges with a roundover bit before hand?

Also, do you know if Rustoleum Filler and Primer would work to get rid of wood grains?

thanks,
Scott

I can't wait to get going!!!  I will be tagging along with your projects for sure!

Hey Ond!  I was reading through this thread (3rd time) and I was wondering if you could post some overall specs? Height, width, base height, etc.   I'm starting my sketches on a custom cabinet as well using a lot of Fiberglass and would like a bit of ideas for measurements.

Thanks!
