I like the black artwork.  Would be cool to incorporate an all black saturn or something like it.  Make it look planetary...  But this is the most impressive build I've seen on this site.  I'm truly amazed with what you've done here.

Progress on this? Nil.  I am however feeling good for the break from arcade machine building.  Various things have got me interested in getting back into building personal projects in general.  Actually I have my eye on my little bartop project at the moment.  This weekend I have to build a dog kennel.  My kids have been waiting years for a dog but it hasn't been the right time until now.

Seeing what you can do for arcade cabinets, I'm sure some of us would like to see what this dog kennel will look like.  ;)

I think that sideart or applied graphics of any kind would look out of place on such a design. The shape and finish of the cabinet itself is the art. I mean, can you imagine Computer Space with sideart?

I think it looks beautiful just like that Ond.  Ultimately it is your project so whatever makes you happiest with it regardless of what anyone here says is what you should, IMO, keep in mind. :applaud:

Hi Ond,

Have you made any progress?  I'm particularly interested to hear how you are going to get the stencil artwork on the base.  Are you going to paint it or something else?  If you are sticking with not putting anything on the side, I'd still love to hear how you were planning on doing it since I'll be in the same boat soon.

Good decision on the artwork. Not necessary at all.

I'm sorry for BTWNO (bumping thread while not Ond), but as a newcomer to this forum, and after having marathoned all 38 pages (my employer would love to know that, I'm sure!), I just wanted to add my meager two cents to the masses: This. Is. Awesome.

From a practicality stand point, it would be nice if you could work in some sort of kick-plate. Speaking from my own experience with my machines, people do scuff up the bottom of the machine.

My guess is OND is working up some sort of repulser force field projector that will automatically come on when it detects any miscreants.

Who knows what his depraved genius is up to in his lab?

Re: Retro-Futuristic Mame cabinet

So, while I know Ond is busy getting a house ready for sale, and working with his kiddies (both things I know personally are time and energy drainers), I would feel dirty if after reading all 38 pages and NOT commenting.

I have to say the carpentry is flat out fantastic. The drive to start with a vision like that, and then execute it to damn near the concept is outstanding.

Sorry for the bump, but I wanted to thank Ond for the amazingly detailed steps he's taken the time during his build to lay out, as well as the constant updates.

I also want to thank the others who've been in this thread since day 1 - I've learned so much in reading through this build.

Can't wait to see Ond get everything taken care of on the homefront (hopefully a sale on the home comes without too much waiting), as well as the eventual conclusion to this build.

Thanks,
-Dave

Hi

I have been through the whole thread and I have to say this is a huge inspiration as to what is possible. Been into Mame for many years but only just built up the confidence in woodwork to try and build a cab myself and have been doing some research on line.

Needless to say I have been in awe at the quality of this project - it is the best I have seen on the internet and it is hard to believe it is a home project. The engineering, design and finsih is amazing and the thought and time you have spent on the finer details is astonishing.

Huge thanks for the amount of detail you have gone in to on here. I hope one day I can get somewhere close to your level.

Good luck getting it finished although I suspect there will always be something further you would want to do with it :)

Easy there killer...

I'm familiar with Ond's work. Just missed this one.  I was perusing the Hall of Fame thread and bam!

I had the same reaction, "How did I miss this?"  Then it dawned on me:  I was busy with another project called my son in '09. Lol.

Either way, good stuff. Ond you're the man.
