Do you have a friend with a vinyl cutter?  I cut out a square and use that to mask with and it doesn't pull up the paint nearly as often.  I think because the material is more dense and not as thick and I don't know why but I have all but stopped using tape to mask anything.

It would literally take 5 minutes to cut a mask out of adhesive vinyl and any old piece works.  If you didn't live so far away I would throw one in the mail for you this afternoon.

Wouldn't it be easier just to have the glass stay still and only rotate the monitor?

That's what I would do. Do not rotate the glass but have a fixed, round panel attached to the monitor frame for the mask. Rotate the thing from the inside, keep everything sealed from the outside.

At least it works in Sketchup for MVS-99-6.   ;)

I'm not in a good mood at the moment though your post cheered me up.  I'm having challenges coating the glass  :banghead:  I thought I had it in the bag on the second go but I waited too long for the primer backing coat (which protects the black paint and provides a surface to stick mounts to) and when I lifted the masking tape the primer coat tore ragged edges.  GAH!

Maybe run a very sharp razor-blade along the edge of the masking tape to cut the paint away from the tape before pulling the tape off?

Depending on how the glass was tinted, this may or may not hurt the tinted effect.

I subscribe more to the 'Ond operates on a plane higher than humans' concept too, but not robotic. This project's got WAY more style than a robot could make.

Nope, a tardis, just not a silly fictional one, but what would really be constructed 500 years in the future.

I recognise those magnets,  once snapped a pair round my finger,  And I can safely say "damn it hurt" Have you got a pair of glass holders (Big rubber suckers with handles) for when you put it in place/remove the glass.
