Thanks for the comments guys.  It's good to get this part of the cab completed.  Just letting everyone know, while I will continue to work on this as time permits I won't be posting small incremental updates to this project for a while.  The next update post will be when I've fully completed all surface finishing and rebuilt the motor / screen rotation assembly i.e. when the cab is almost to completion stage.  I've already covered these stages of the build in plenty of detail previously and to revisit the same things is, well, boring.  When I have the glass bezel attached and the internals of the cab all in place I'll do maybe a couple of build updates before final reveal.

  all till then

Ond

I've got a Washington on November for the final reveal.  Not saying what year tho.   >:D

As to my own cab, I finished off the coin reject box this weekend and tested the coin mech fitted into the cab. There's plenty of pics and a video as well.  Ond speaks!  :-[  Again I used the nice blue semi opaque plastic sheet to construct a box out of.

Nice! Now make it light up and flash only when a coin drops into it.  ;D

I just realized why I must like working with stain grade wood projects. They're SO much easier. Wood grain masks all sorts of issues  ;)

Fantastic vid. Really good info and techniques.

I don't think I've ever seen so much sanding  :)

yeah, it is really nice to see how this comes together.  When I tried putting a pink piano finish on Bella's Arcade I didn't have much to go on and this definitely would have helped.  I got my gloss from sanding back many many many coats of clear polyurethane... not the best idea...

Definitely going to be using this method on my next project.  I roughly followed your advice for painting my Skeeball machine last year and I was very happy with the results even though I got lazy and didn't do more than 2 coats.  Will follow this religiously for my arcade build since your results are freakin breathtaking.  Thanks for these!

So once again, we find that evil of the past seeps into the present like salad dressing through cheap wax paper, mixing memory and desire.

I apologize if this has already been asked and answered (or is just common knowledge), but why use Bondo for a woodworking project instead of just wood filler, which seems easier to work with?

My experience is it's more wood-like, water resistant, and paints better.

Be careful using real Bondo- the automotive body filler - as sold in the US - on soft wood.  On mdf or harder woods it's ok.  it's meant to be used on metal substrates and sets up pretty hard.  on soft wood you risk digging out wood around your patch when you try to sand it, because the wood is much softer than the filler.  Consider using a 2 part filler made specifically for wood that sets up just a little softer.  I think they even make a wood version of Bondo.  I can't see exactly what Ond is using but its probably an Aus. specific product- different countries have different environmental rules, etc.  YMMV.  experiment a little and find the best product for your project materials and techniques.

Really enjoying these videos from the Man Down Under.  I love to be shown a project going through all the steps.

It's good to be back working on my cab project, I've had so many things on the go in the last 6 months, and still do, but I'm finding the time again for this.  I guess for a lot of you guys the colder months are on the horizon, here the days grow warmer and longer, so expect me to pop up here and there more regularly now ;D

What is this, some kind of trend? ;) ...seriously though. NICE WORK you have there.
