"It is by will alone I set my mind in motion"  First person to post in here who said that (without googling it  ::) gets...um,  I dunno I'll think of something  :P

It's that one guy from Dune, right? Can't remember the character's name (human computer, addicted to spice juice) but he was played by Brad Dourif in the movie, if my memory serves me correctly.

Crap... I'm going to Google it, because now I just have to know the character's name ... do I win something anyway?  LOL.

I've never been a fan of Dune, but that speech always intrigued me...

Pieter de Vries, the mentat for House Harkonnen.  Dune fan here.  At least, a fan of the elder Herbert's product, anyway.

Eventually the secret will come out, that every picture on this thread was a computer rendering and that the arcade doesn't exist.....

Anyone else here feel like they're witnessing greatness in the making?

Doubtful I'll ever be a part of a thread documenting something like this ever in my life again. Arcade or otherwise.

Words fail me.
Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

LOL - quit derailing Ond's thread!  ;)  (JK - I'm going to buy some MDF tonight!  Got my plans back on track.  This weekend was stupid.  Weather called for rain all day Saturday and none on Sunday, and did the exact opposite!  Looked crappy all day Saturday, so I was fearful of toting MDF outside, and then it didn't rain.  Sunday, looked great in the beginning, and then when I WENT to buy MDF, it started POURING.  I was so mad.  So mad.)

Details to come... ...in my own thread.  :)

After lurking around these forums for quite a while without posting, and having just spent 4 hours reading this thread through right from the start, I just have to break my silence and say...

... after 26 pages I can't believe I don't get to see it finished yet!

Now I feel the pain the others have been suffering!  :hissy:

Ond, you have to finish this unreal piece of art as soon as possible... please!  :notworthy:

This is true... going back to the quasi-religious tone of several pages earlier, forgive this poor sinner... it just hurts so bad... almost as bad as George making Vader cry 'Noooooo!' in the new blu-ray ROTJ... but I will be strong from now on, and grateful for posts when they arrive in between this thing called 'living'...

...This weekend I divided my cab building time between helping out a friend and working on the other hemisphere (still).  The fact is some aspects of this cab from a progress point of view are boring.  To get these spherical surfaces really right means literally hours of me sitting out in the garage sanding.  Sanding, sanding, and then sanding.  The first half hemisphere went through the same thing too before I ever went near it with paint, but to post "well another day of sanding and cut-back then re-spray ain't so thrilling.  The pics don't show ripples and hollows in the surface but if I run my hand over they are there - or were.  The key thing here is I'm continuously working at it.  It's just nothing like building a traditional cab, saw MDF sheet, assemble .....well you get the idea.

This is what's coming up within the next 10 days or so.  The other half hemisphere will get painted and polished, I'll reassemble the top of the cab and surface finish the curved brace that runs down the back of the hemisphere.  Then I'll cut the ring insert and get into mounting the glass and positioning of the monitor with a bunch of new rotation tests.  This should be way more interesting.

I don't like to say "you ain't seen nothing yet" but well, I'm sure excited by whats coming up and knowing other folks are keen too keeps me going through the boring stuff.  So seriously, thanks for the interest and the comments.  I have a very clear picture in my head of how this cab will look (and function) in completion, that really is more than half the battle with ambitious projects.  I'm sitting out there transferring that image into reality.  Welcome aboard the bus!

Well put.

I think one of the most impressive features about these longer term builds is not only the attention to detail, not only how you guys do things - and then redo them when they aren't good enough, but this aspect of continuously working at these projects over the longer term... like many others I fall down at the point where it gets to being 'good enough' rather than 'really right' as you put it.

Please don't think I am trying to pressure you, that's the last thing I want to do... now I have had a sleep I've calmed down and I am looking forward to whatever you come up with next, as you have time to do it - I'm particularly interested to see how you are going to fix the rear bracing... thanks again for a truly inspiring build. :applaud:
