Where did you get the acoustic foam?  I've been looking for that myself to build a sound baffle for my shop vac and cannot find it for reasonable prices.  Currently pondering buying a mattress pad and cutting it up.

What is that rubber sealing you put on the rim of the pipe? Amazing detail you have put into this project; I hope to emulate such workmanship when I begin my quest, someday soon.

Looks great Ond.  That black interior followed by the matching speaker just looks spectacular.

It's getting there. I'm sure you're getting excited to be so close even though you still have a bit of work to do. It's taking shape nicely and it's going to be amazing!

So, do you plan on making the base of the cabinet candy red as well, or with blue details to tie into the control panel? Perhaps a red base with blue "fields" around the fan holes?  :dunno

Anyhow, it's all coming together in a lovely way.  :applaud: And here I was thinking that the world would end today.  :dizzy:

Giving this cab a mamey would be an insult.

All other cab builders should hope to win an 'Ondey'

Top notch, Ond. It's delicious.
Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

It's true that many well known genre awards are named after major luminaries in the development of the art - Oscar's, Emmy's, Tony's, Hugo's, . . . Dundee's.

The names are usually applied posthumously, though.   :-\  (Ond, best wishes for it a long and happy life!)

The Retro is a stunner.  An update every weekend for a while now - we're getting hooked!

Ond - how are you going to handle the interior of the half-sphere?  Are you hoping to create a round monitor bezel panel for the rotation and just hide the interior?  Or are you planning to do something crazy on the inside?  Also, do you have any plans yet for the area where the half-sphere meets the rest of the cab?

I cannot believe the results you are getting in your garage.  How long are you spending on the putty/sanding/painting aspect?  I tried to achieve a mirrored finish on one of my cabinets and it seriously took days at a time of nothing but sanding and painting and I didn't come close to achieving the level of shine you are getting.  I was also only treating flat surfaces which I imagine would make things much easier for you!  You must have endless patience which I think is 49% of getting results like this (the other 51% = mad skillz).

I need to go back and try to piece together the exact steps you have taken to get where you are at now (including which products you are using).  You continued to refine the end product well after the point where I would have stopped because it seriously looked great ages ago.  I'd like to give it a try someday but on a much smaller scale - maybe a custom joystick box or something.

There's an idea. Head to the auto parts store and get the adhesive used for the mirror.

Love the detailed updates, and I especially love that you mounted a frickin monitor on your workbench pegboard.  You are the man!

So once again, we find that evil of the past seeps into the present like salad dressing through cheap wax paper, mixing memory and desire.
