Good to see an update to this thread. The lack of them has been disturbing.

If this was my build, I wouldn't play on it when it's finished, I'd just put it in a glass case in the middle of my living room and look at it. Really nice.

From this very thread, many months ago....  ;D

This thread is becoming like religion. I may not go to church every week, but I do make sure I get a weekly(daily!) dose of the updates from this build!

Ond I think you should leave this cab 95% finished and play it all you can, because I fully believe that once it's 100% complete, it will ascend to the heavens.

It'll be like 'The Rapture.'

Anyone for some special kool aid?

/end rant

Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

Don't take let us become a burden, Ond.
I'd rather see your cab compleated IN DUE TIME, than having you burning the candle at both ends and running out of energy, and not finishing it, because we're all pushing you to finish.
Your work so far is unprecedented. Hell! I've started, finished and then ripped everything out of my cab again while you put on your 26th layer of spray putty.
I don't have the patience it takes but I'm glad you do. Take your time, put the sanding block away, sit back and enjoy what you've created once in a while.

Your friend in the north. :applaud:

I've always thought "Time Waster" had a nice ring to it after first noticing that cab in the background in some Simpsons episodes taking place in the Springfield bowling alley.

Other suggestions:
"Leisure Lab" (Needs swirly Cadillac type font)
"C.O.N.T.R.O.L." (In beveled type font)
"W.A.R.P." (see above)
"Omni Fun"
"GAME-A-TRON"
"Proto-Play"

I have a small challenge though, it’s been really bugging me ever since I began.  What to call the damn thing??? Sure the thread title is ‘Retro-Futuristic Mame Cabinet, but that isn’t a name. I’m thinking of offering a ‘prize’ to whoever can come up with a name i.e. artwork or design work or similar.

So I’m throwing it out there...    Name this cab and win artwork or design work to the  value of..well,....my time and effort!    Those I’m already supposed to be doing stuff for are included – we’ll work out something extra ;D   For artwork samples I’ve done previously check here http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=95035.0

An old Sanctuary song comes to mind..."Future Tense".  Also, Iron Maiden's "Remember Tomorrow". Whatever you name it, I can't wait to see the final product. I think this is one of the most if not the most creative ideas I've seen come to fruition in such a successful way.

One of my favourite Dr. Who stories was a story called "Terminus"

In latin it means "End of the road, boundary stone"...plus it looks like a terminal.

I do not think this awesome cab needs a name.  There is no traditional marquee so why slap a name on it just for the sake of doing so?

You're right jav - no traditional marquee but I still want a name on the FE / menu and start up vid. I'm thinking of working the name into some artwork on the body of the cab as well. Not just for the sake of it, but if it looks good and ties in well then sure why not?  I toyed with the idea of a sort of a clear marquee with just EL wire for lettering only above the hemisphere.  I haven't totally dismissed the idea but at this stage it's unlikely.  Even if it ends up as just a "Signature" style in small lettering on the CP that would be cool too.

Some more great candidates...thanks folks

The FE/start up vid would be a great place for a name but I'd think about whether you need to put it on the side even if it ties in - even though this cabinet is extremely complex it is actually kind of simplistic/elegant in its overall design.  Rather than a name, perhaps you could add some sort of design to the outside to make it pop (like racing stripes but not racing stripes if you know what I mean) instead of a font.  I'm sure whatever you decide on will be perfect - everything else has been so far.  Just throwing it out there...

I've been looking for names of old cadillacs or similar cars. Nothings struck me as good enough in that vein, but I did come across the name

"Spitfire"

That, or some derivative of, might work.

I was thinking along the lines of this font

http://www.dafont.com/spitfire.font

Maybe the "Spitfire Emporium".... Ok, that might be a tad too steampunkish  ;)

Has anyone suggested the obvious name yet?

"THE OND" or even more simply "OND"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OND

It could be printed on front in CAPS or as a signature on back.

Oh yeah and that wiki article will need updating too.

Every time I see OND, I think "pwned", which is pretty much what this cab is doing to most other cabs  ;)

+1 on the Astroboy or Something*Astro*Something. It definitely has that look.
