Nice. But i'm thinking if those tubes were made out of brass or bronze, the way you had it would've looked awful nice!

Boilerplate FTW!

I know how gritty this stuff looks when you start, but also how lovely it will look when finished, so I'm gonna start saving up my saliva in preparation right now, 'cause there's a flood coming for sure.  :applaud:

The land of fiberglas is a dusty, itchy place, but the results are clearly going to be worth it.  A strong fabrication technique to have in your arsenal.  Keep your gloves and mask on and party on!

Wow. I didn't realize you had the speakers tubes inset like that before.

Makes it much more interesting (and a damn site harder to shape properly I'm betting!)

WOW...  Anyone that can read this thread and not be inspired has something wrong with them.  I hope to one day have a fraction of the skill that Ond has.  I'm honestly more and more amazed with every update.

So once again, we find that evil of the past seeps into the present like salad dressing through cheap wax paper, mixing memory and desire.

Ahh Robbie the robot. I think he was around before the robot on Lost In Space (the one on the original crappy series, not the extremely crappy movie).
Both Robots amazed me when I was a kid.

As I sat sanding by hand I started thinking about other possibilities for producing shapes in this way.

You're probably aware of this technique, but in case not.....
Back in the car audio boom of the early 90's,  I would stretch polyester cloth tightly over a framework and soak that with fiberglass resin.
Then hand lay fiberglass over it for strength.  (I like the things I make to be strong enough to stand on).
I've seen others use only thick fleece without using any fiberglass mat, but I've never tried it.
Do a google image search for "custom fiberglass enclosure" to get an idea of what shapes you can get.
(don't want to threadcrap with pics of things other than your cab)

Using everyday objects as molds for the fiberglass can yield cool results too.
If building your cab, I probably would have got a big ball from toysRus and hand laid fiberglass over it.

That is exactly how I make stuff with fibreglass as well, except I use felt as it really soaks up the resin and leaves it strong enough to really push the additional layers onto it.

;D Well I'm gonna stand up for EvilNuff's workbench, simple it may be (wait, did I just sound like Yoda??), but it's a sacred place man, ahead of perhaps ....even the BBQ  :o as a place of pride for capable men everywhere.  Without a workbench what have you got? a kitchen table? can't mess that up (if you're married - doubly so).  Nope, your workbench is your domain and with something decent to sit on it's my favourite place in the house.  When my son is old enough (he's eight) he will have to construct his own workbench and being my son it will have to meet the most exacting standards imaginable.....OK Just kidding   :laugh2: I love workbenches small, simple, SUPER EL GRANDO SUPREME whateva, in fact somebody should start a thread around (if there isn't one already) them so we can check everyones out, I love seeing ppls work area - makes me want to rock over with some beers in hand.
...

Workbenches are getting off topic but I strongly recommend the Fine Woodworking getting started in woodworking bench: http://www.startwoodworking.com/plans/build-simple-sturdy-workbench
Its cheap, its easy, and its really damn sturdy and effective.  I got tired of using a folding table so now this is along one wall of the garage, move the cars out and I can do whatever I need. :)
