Dang Ond, you are da man wid da plan.  You got some skills with sketch up that I wish I had.  Just don't have much time to learn right now.

Well, not to offend anyone but it is not the Sketchup skills that impress me the most :-)

Totally awesome work!

I totally agree, this is going to be an awesome cab.  The work with that spray putty, the precise cuts and everything.  It still wouldn't be as good if this was built with out a plan.  This is a perfect example of a good set of plans and the execution of them.

Outstanding man....just superb...I'm so glad I saw this thread.
I was going to build something similar but I've putting it off due to a real lack of enthusiasm but this thread has given my procrastination a kick in the behind....time to get planning  :applaud:

Yep!  Fav albums are 'Killers' and 'The Number of the Beast'
Cool. So did you see them there this year? I think it was more than 10 years ago that they where there last?
Avatar is back but still blurry... Don't know why it's displayed at 80x80 when its only 60x60..? I din't have the big original anymore so I'll have to live with it I guess.

Wow - just unbelievable work - is there anything you don't know how to do?   ;D

How are you getting the monitor to stop rotating at exactly 90 degrees?

Holy crap!  Now that's super official(tm).

Out of curiosity, how much did you invest in the motor parts/software portion?  Is this software something that anyone with basic programming skills could create or does this take a BS in computer science?

I like that your setup does not depend on physical stops to prevent turning past 90 degrees.  Even though my rotating setup rotates slower, and has padded stops, the screen still gets slightly jolted upon hitting the mark.

Great work!  Is your next project an Iron Man flight suit?

Wow.  :notworthy:

If I'm remembering correctly, it seems a cryin' shame to hide all those gears/bearing/plates inside the top canopy. They look awesome! And the movement is fantastic.

You're really one of the mythbusters guys, right  ;)

<sniff, sniff>  Do I smell a Memey?  Very nice!

How are you controlling the position?  I mean, are there limit switches or are you just counting steps?  What happens if the power goes out in a non-home position, do you have to manually "reset" it?

Hey OND, if you need help with serial port nuts and bolts, give me a shout.

I can't promise I'll have much to contribute, but I have written some commercial serial apps in the past, so I know a thing or two about the subject.

Please take the rotation up to helicopter speeds and post a video on it. You know you want to, and it's what the gears are made for....  >:D

Wow Ond, that is one fine setup!

I thought about stepper motors on my rotate project, but the price scared me away.
But it looks like it may be money well spent.

hey Ond,

I had a question about the motor
does it have an auto shut off if there is to much resistance (like something preventing the monitor from spinning)
or is there a way to have a sensor to shut it off if there is some obstruction?

Thanks
