I wouldn't think twice about MAMEing that beast. I am actually surprised that so many on a forum like this are against it. But I'm not for keeping things original just for the sake of it. If I had an old car I'd put a new more powerful engine in it and new tires and better suspension. Not keep it with inferior tires engine and poor handling. I would not want a cab with one game taking up a huge amount of space in my home. But that is just me. MAME that sucker. Use one big TV for a monitor. Congrats on the find! |

Especially since over time they get rarer and rarer. I definitely respect the notion of preservation, but I'll leave that up to the museums >:D I'm 29 and come from a generation that grew up with Street Fighter II and look-a-like dynamo cabinets and conversions. I was socially trained not to give much attention to what the cabinet looked like... just what game was running on it. About the only cabinet I ever fell in love with as a kid were the showcase cabinets, and those were non-game specific. I also have been falling in love with candy cabs as an adult, and those are also non-game specific. It'll probably always be Mame for me. ...alright, alright I have to admit... if I ever restore any game it'd be a Dragon's Lair II cab. Delusional, please keep us posted and share a picture or two of your new baby when you get it moved in! |

My suggestion (pretty bad exposed also) was only to play the game until it can be restored with the original replacement parts, to mame a generic/knokoff cabnet is Ok, doing that (in a way that doesn't allow you to revert back to the original status) on a rare specimen like this one would be a crime against the preservation idea that is behind mame concept itself. |

So you would have to wire out an inverted image on whatever secondary device you put in. So yeah more trouble than its worth considering he simply wants to keep it as an 6 player X-men --- End quote --- I actually looked into this... Yes, you would have to wire out an inverted image, since (for whatever reason) MAME does not invert the image. (Select MAME games do... I could have sworn I saw the option somewhere, but I can't remember which game it was?). ~ D |

OK, Here are some photos. I've only moved half of the cabinet in (the control panel). I am going to pick up the rest of (the monitors in the second chunk) next week. Although I did take a couple of pics of the monitors at the guys place (covered with tarp underneath a covered porch, so it was limited). The control panel is so huge that when it opens up it requires a metal rod (just like a car) to hold it up. The coin mechs are intact (Happ 3 player coin doors on each side). The cabinet came apart in 3 chunks. Control Panel, Monitors and the monitor on the back has a box which come off with bolts. Edit: I also noticed that there was a painted piece of tape on the left side of the control panel. I peeled off the tape and realized that they painted over the side art. Probably not worth trying to save it, since they must have painted it for a reason. Also on the front art, it looks as if there are 2 layers of the side art. It was probably re-ordered and stuck over the original messed up art. ~ DeLuSioNaL |
