CheffoJeffo:
That's a really nice effect for that CP!

how thick is this laminate?  i have 5/8th inch MDF, and 3/4" Tmolding.  is laminate that thick?  if not, what thickness of MDF are you using?

right now i'm leaning toward teh utrak, no mounting ring, plexi over the MDF, painting the back of the plexi instead of an overlay
NickG:
I did mine with a flushed mounting plate underneath hard laminate, also.  I laminated both sides of the CP for the thickness and for  uniformity of looks (did the whole cabinet).  The stuff I used was almost a 1/16th inch thick, so the T-molding does overlap a little bit
~5/8+~1/16+~1/16= ~3/4  Also, the raised plastic bezel "ring" of the trackball sticks out above the laminate surface approximately as high as the joysticks' dust covers

that looks awesome.  i painted my plexi on my last panel, but i just painted it all black...taping it off and painting multiple colors never crossed my mind...that looks really good.

I went with the GGG high mount.  It is a super-clean install.  I don't think it's much different in height than TOK's mount.  I really like the height.  It's much more comfortable than I thought it would be.  If you are going to use plexi then you could substitute that for the GGG trim ring.  At that point the only thing you are getting in the GGG kit that you would use is the template and the threaded inserts and matching screws, so you could just do it yourself.
