GP WIZ40-----I'm stuck----NOOB!!

Ok, I'm confused again.  Are you using a KeyWiz or a GPWiz?  Only the GPWiz has rotary capability.  If you want to use it with Happ Rotary sticks, you need to cut off the harness and wire the inputs up directly to the screw terminals per Randy's documentation.  I've done this and it works super.  You even get functionality for a few more games that the Ultimarc interface can't handle (Frontline, Tin Star).

To test your Ultimarc interface, just open up Notepad and start turning the stick.  You should see a [ character for each right turn and a ] character for each left.  If you're not getting anything, be sure that windows is recognizing the device as a generic USB HID device (look in your device manager).  If it is and you STILL aren't getting anything, be sure your harness (or loom as you called it) is not plugged in upside down.  When I first tried mine, the intuitive way to plug it in was upside down.  I sent a picture to Andy of how I was doing it and he told me I plugged both sticks in upside down.  Turning them right side up fixed them up perfectly.

Thank you...wiring loom (or harness as you call it  :P) was plugged in the wrong way!!! Who would have thought that the wires would point inwards over the interface as opposed to outwards?

Thank you so so much. It recognised the keystrokes in notepad so i guess i don't have to cut off the harness and wire the inputs directly into the GP WIZ40.

All i need now is to get my GP Keywiz40 going now. Can you shed any light on this matter. I am still not getting any response outta my buttons and joysticks.

your problem wasn't entirely clear to me

Your saying you had mame working with your old interface, then you switched to the GPWiz and MAME stopped working?  Your computer will see the Keywiz as if it is a keyboard, but it will see your new GPWiz as a gamepad.  MAME is still probably looking for the keyboard strokes.  If I'm understanding the problem, you will need to reconfigure MAME to use the Gamepad buttons instead.

Glad you got your rotaries working.

I just had another thought.  If you're using a GPWiz, you need to enable gamepad/joystick control in mame.  Add the '-joy' option if you're running from the command line, or enable it in the gui if your using Windows version or a frontend of some kind.

Ok...wow...i think we are getting somewhere...yes you are right about the above. My GPWiz is seen as a gamepad. How do i get into mame to reconfigure it to recignise the gamepad and not the keystroks.

I am running command line (I think, how can i tell?) of mame so where do i go and do i add the -joy option.

How do you execute mame when you play a game?  Are you running it from a front end?  If so which one?
