Rolling Madness 3D

Its a vector remake of marble madness, not a lot of innovation, but all in true 3d and very pretty too!

Very cab friendly

If you have a trackball - get it!

This video doesn't show off the funky 3d viewing angles ;(

And another marble madness inspired game!

This one is much more than a straight port and should offer a longer term challenge, the gameplay seems a little more relaxed and not quite as frantic as the original

This one reminds me more of an old 8 bit computer game called Spindizzy and its sequel Spindizzy worlds.

Windows version here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/trackballs/files/trackballs/1.1.2/trackballs-1.1.2.exe/download

If you like it, there are also level packs available

I've currently installed the following pc games on my cab:
Commander Keen 1-6 + Keen Dreams
Duke Nukem II
Duke Nukem Manhattan Project
Street Fighter 4

With plans to install:
GTA2
TerrorDrome
Doom 1,2, Final
Descent? -Has anyone tried playing the descent's on cabinet? They were designed around joystick play, probably fairly adaptable to arcade cabinet.
Forsaken - Descent-type game with newer graphics. not sure how cab friendly, will get back.
Eventually, SNES and GBA emulators

I've been looking for Metroid SR388, but I haven't been able to find it, is it complete?
I found the AM2Remake, and its looking very promising, as it nears completion.

No, but now you got me curious. I gotta pull out my old CD of that game and give it a whirl.

Has anyone tried Street Fighter 4?  My only concern is if the resolution can get low enough for my monitor (640x480)
I'd love to play some Street Fighter 4 on my cab
SF4 works fine in 640x480 mode. I have it running through Hyperspin flawlessly.

Some others I haven't seen mentioned yet:

BlazBlue: CT - A PC version was released
Melty Blood - Again, a PC version was released, but I don't think it's Act Cadenza
Guilty Gear Isuka - A tag-team style version of GG
Guilty Gear XX #Reload - I saw GGX mentioned but this one also so a release.

Yep, set it up the other night. I'm still tweaking but so far this button mapping seems to do the trick on a 6-button cab set up in a standard Street Fighter format:

Btn 1: Fire Primary
Btn 2: Strafe (L-R & U-D)
Btn 3: Accelerate
Btn 4: Bank Left
Btn 5: Fire Secondary
Btn 6: Reverse

Player 2 Controls

Btn 1: Fire Flare
Btn 2: Rear View
Btn 3: Map
Btn 4: Drop Bomb

About the only control concession I had to make is to only have 1 bank control, which means I have to bank 270 degrees sometimes. Turn on auto-levelling and it becomes a lot easier to stay focused.

shank, 1 player works fine on cab.. 2 player has to be a game pad (i think).  Has anyone figured out a way to put shank on the same keyboard? I wonder if the street fighter 4 patch would work with this? it also recognizes xbox 360 controllers

The guys over at Armchair Arcade just pointed me out to a great platformer that pays homage to Castlevania. The Soul of Dracula.

Fully customizable keyboard settings, small size (6.5 megs unzipped), full screen option, perfect for a cab. Definitely going in my systems. Jumping takes a bit of getting used too but once I got it figured out it wasn't a big deal. Go get it!! Let me know what you guys think!

DAMMIT.  For fans of Terrordrome (I JUST found out about it today, about 15 days too late it would seem) they have pulled their free download of the game.  If you don't know already, it's a fighter that allows you to play famous horror movie characters...  It's free, and a fan-made endeavour, so it's sad to see it's demise.  It looks like they received multiple letters from media lawyers, asking them to remove key characters from the game.  Copyright infringement issues, I guess.

I think it would be a pretty cool game to play, albeit a bit rough around the edges.  But for free, what can you say?

Edit:   Innnnnnnteresting.  Even though their download link doesn't work, I seem to be able to massage the address and get it.  (Mods - does this constitute a 'no-no' situation on me telling people it's still available?)

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere but I'll add a few Apogee classics to the mix:

 - Bio Menace

 - Crystal Caves

 - and of course Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem 2

There's a tonne of other Apogee games worth looking into.

I did not see: "3D Ultra Pinball CreepNight" on the list. :)

Played it for hours back in the day and runs great on cab too, you can setup the keys ingame.

I just installed Shank in my cabinet too, and it seems really fun.  :applaud:

How have you addressed the navigation in the menus with your control panel? It seems that once the configuration is done, the game operates perfectly in-game, but the menu's still require mouse/keyboard.

Here's another one for you guys:  >:DEvil Dead Regeneration >:D

It features fully customizable controls, so you should be able to set it up for a control panel fairly easily. I did play this on PC when it first came out, and it was pretty fun. With the voices of Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi, you can't go wrong. :notworthy:

As a side note, I could not get this to install on my 64bit arcade cabinet. :badmood:

This was in a recent post somewhere: "Super Mario X" http://www.supermariobrothers.org/smbx/
requires min 1024x768; if you can support that res, but use a lower one by default, then you could script something up which includes a res change, for example: http://www.12noon.com/displaychanger.htm

Scrabble Plus can be played with a mouse/trackball/touchscreen.

It does require you to enter a name with a keyboard to create any profiles you want to use, but you only have to do this once. Although if you want to make use of the in game dictionary, you will need a keyboard - scrolling trough a list of 100,000s of words isn't exactly practical! You could always use an on-screen keyboard that will stay on top of the game in fullscreen however - which is what I am planning on doing. Touch-It's free version is the one I use, found here - http://www.chessware.ch/virtual-keyboard/ It works and looks great on a touchscreen, plus it let's you control how transparent it is and it lets you minimise it - so it's a real good keyboard, just in case you're interested.

It's gonna be amazing in my cab!  :) I really wanted a few games that make use of the touchscreen - now I just need a chess game and some quiz games... maybe others as well, if I can find anything good.

Split/Second can also be played.  Once installed, remapping the keys is a cinch, however, it requires the Enter/Escape/Tab keys to go forward, back, and change color of your vehicle, respectively.

However, if you have AutoHotKey or AutoIt, this is a simple fix that could be done by a macro.

EDIT:  Using the SF4 keyboard fix, Blur is also playable on the cabinet, and what a fun 4 player game that is! :)

Hi, everyone.  A while ago I started maintaining a similar list of cabinet-friendly DOS games to be played on DOSBox.  I'm not sure if they have a place in a list like this, being that they're for DOS, and are therefore seriously old-school.  Anyway, here's what I've come up with thus far.

 8) These are 100% cabinet-friendly:
- Bananoid
- Battle Chess
- Beats of Rage
- C-Dogs
- Cyberdogs
- Electro Man
- Executioners
- Galactic Battle
- Jump 'n Bump
- MsPac Pc
- One Must Fall: 2097
- PC*Bert
- Pac PC
- Prince of Persia
- Round42
- Spot
- TerraFire
- Tyrian/Tyrian 2000

 :-\ These are mostly cabinet-friendly:
- Alien Carnage
- Bio Menace
- Classic Jumpman
- Commander Keen IV: Goodbye, Galaxy!
- Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons
- Commander Keen: Keen Dreams
- Dangerous Dave
- Digger Remastered
- Galactix
- God of Thunder
- Jazz Jackrabbit
- Raptor: Call of the Shadows
- Scorched Earth: The Mother of All Games
- SkyRoads
- Stargunner
- Wacky Wheels

The complete list with details and download links (for the freeware titles) is hosted the Wah!Cade wiki page:
http://wahki.mameau.com/index.php?title=Cabinet-Friendly_DOS_Games

Enjoy!  :D

I guess this thread doesn't get too many additions to it, not sure why, I guess most people still play emulators on their machines.

I do too but after the success of lego star wars on my machine I am keen to see what else can run which is more up to date and more or less friendly to cabs.  I have a keyboard tray so I dont mind using it to start up games but I would only like the gameplay to involve the arcade controls and no keyboard.

My mame pc unfortunately got placed in use in my workshop but I get to replace it, probably with an i5 and a spare 5770 I have had lying around.  This opens up more modern pc games to try.

It looks like console ports could be good candidates,  I was looking at dungeon siege 3 as a possibility.  Has anyone tried that or any other more up to date games than currently listed?

I saw a game on Steam that came out this summer called Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony. It's a horizontal screen shmup that has 4 player co-op which I have not seen in a shmup before.

Jamestown is very cool, only limiting factor for a cab is only 1 player can be mapped to keyboard.

I saw a game on Steam that came out this summer called Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony. It's a horizontal screen shmup that has 4 player co-op which I have not seen in a shmup before.

I bought this game from Gamersgate hoping it would be a standalone game that didn't need the steam client to run... turns out the gamersgate purchase installs steam for you and launches the game from steam.  I have nothing against steam, I just don't want it in my cab using precious memory running in the background.  Shame, it's a really awesome-looking game.

Don't think has been mentioned

Warblade (Updated version of the Amiga classic Deluxe Galaga, by the same programmer)

http://www.warblade.as/index.asp

$5.99 for full version

Cab friendly with configurable controls (hardcoded: space or f1 to start 1up, f2 for altenate 2up, f3 for coop 2up)

Highly recommended, give the trial version a go
