I have Bionic Commando Rearmed on my cab.   Pretty fun to play with 2 players.

I Wanna Be The Guy - Very hard game, but fun if you enjoy difficult platform type games.

Virtua Tennis 3 PC from Sega plays just fine using a joystick/buttons. The only caveat is that in career mode you need to press F1 to check your mail. If you have an Ipac, you can just reprogram one of your buttons to be F1 when the game loads.

Presumably Street Fighter 4 should be added to the list.

May sound like an odd choice as it does have quite a few keyboard commands, but GTA Vice city would be a good choice. I looked at the config screen, and in addition to the joystick, it would require 23 keys. But, Zoom in and Zoom out (as well as turret lean up/down) could be given to the up/down on the second joystick, and the turret lean left/right (as well as next weapon previous weapon) could be joy2 left/right. (these things can be mapped to the same keys and not conflict, as they only work in the proper game mode for them). This would bring the total down to 15 buttons (if one included all commands, some of which are not needed).
On a system with 2 joys, 6 buttons each, plus coin and player start buttons, you would have enough. (Might want to make a template overlay to help people learn what button did what tho :D ).

EDIT: Forgot, might also want a trackball on the computer to make this work well.... :-\

Grid Wars 2 with my patch installed:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=80123.0

Best played with dual analog joystick, but can been use other controls as well (like trackball/joystick).

ClickBeat:
Just been sad it havent been updated yet and have even created 2 music files for it, but its still fun and the controls used is mouse/trackball or touchscreen. No keyboard is used, not even in the hiscore table, which is a problem with many near arcade combatible PC games. Just remember to write protect the configuration file.

http://www.thephorse.net/beatclick/news/

Crazy Taxi 3:
Crazy Taxi 3 is also a fine game to arcade which use near same config system as Virtua Tennis (but havent search for the game again, hence no url)..... The game elsewice just use joystick and few buttons.

Tiger Woods '08 is perfect for a cab. I play it on mine with an X-arcade Tankstik (trackball). :soapbox:
I also have Crazy Taxi (pc) and Star Wars Pod Racer (pc). These all work Great. I run them all using batch files on Maximus Arcade.

Hmmm does Tiger Woods have true trackball support, akin to arcade trackball gameplay, or is it just the existing mouse support used in trackball form?

Great list btw, thanks!

I think its just mouse support but it works out to be the same as far as I am concerned.  :applaud:

GTA Vice City:
Is NOT a arcade friendly game at all, since it designed with use with a xbox/ps3 controller in mind and not with arcade cab in mind. How can you really use a 2 analog controllers AND buttons simulations at once? You can't really do that with a normal arcade controls most use.

If you ask me, it should been removed, since it require to much controllers for a real use.

I Want to Be The Guy:
I found a minor bug in the "demo" version I tried, where the reconfigurered remap did not save. I guess it might guess I opened it directly from the zip file. Otherwise it could elsewice fit perfectly in a arcadecab, so just keep it anyway.

Grid Wars 2:
This game is very controller friendly and you can really play it with just a trackball or a one 8way joystick as well with 2 buttons (which is minimum required to play that game), but it most fun with the named controller scheme's. I just add that patch since some people requested it and it was wrote in that language I normally use. And no, I have NOT created that game, but just added a few addiation controllers and get it more cab freindly, since the source code was included.

Also:
Many games is almost arcade friendly, if it was not a problem with the hiscore, where you require a full keyboard to insert the name... grrr.

And yes I think I add a wiki pages about this one. You can really do the same, since you just can use your username and password.

Elsewice even there is other threads about it, it a good one to start since it is long ago and is property hard to find these... so welcome on board, since I see you are relative new user :D.

I intended for digital joysticks that can work the turret angle as well as have secondary function (such as zoom) when on foot. When I play on my computer I almost only use the mouse with 2 buttons (trackball on cab) and the arrow keys (left digital joystick on cab). Very few of the other buttons get used a lot. Depending on one's control panel, and how they layed the buttons out, it could either be horribly cab unfriendly to working well on a cab. (For it to work on my cp, I would need to add a trackball for direction that the charactor is looking, as it would be horrid with 2 joysticks).

BTW never played the console versions, so I cannot comment on those controls...

They used all buttons on the Xbox 360/PS2 controller (these versions I have played), and is clearly for me designed for that.... But still it have no fell of arcade game at all. The list should split into two list, these with real arcade/simple arcade game, and these which might require more controllers, lige GTA games.

Howover GTA1 and GTA2 can been a real gem on a arcade cab, which might play a much better than these 3d versions!

since this became a stricky thread, why not add some links to other threads about pc games in cab, like this:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=88098.0

I also think commerciel, shareware, freeware should been wrote as well. GTA1 is released as a freeware game example and is a great cab game, much better than vice city for a cab (require only a joystick and few buttons).

Alright, updated list... Also split list into two lists for simple/real arcade game controls and COMPLEX arcade controls...  Any other suggestions/additions???

Hope this helps,

@ SF:  Yeah, I agree, GTA1 would be a better arcade feeling game, but I was trying to go for the "what is possible" bent (and since even vice city you rarely use many buttons, I figured it would be a good benchmark for that extreme).

@ChadDB NM, you already did what I was suggesting, hadnt read the list update. Might want to add that a trackball would be needed for vice city.

EDIT: Edited the @ChadDB part...

A thread somewhat like this has been stickied in EE for a while.  I'm not knocking this list.  Rather, I'm going to suggest cherry picking the items listed in that thread to see what can be added.  The two threads overlap in some ways and the other thread covers some things that don't necessarily belong here.  I'm just throwing it out for conversations sake and so that someone can go through it and add items as needed.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=17208.0

As this isn't my list nor is the one in EE, I'm not going to be able to help go through the old one and see what fits here.  That's a lot of pages!   ;D

Closemul is a utility, not a game and should not been listed in this thread between games, but is in the wiki (which can been quit cool for some of these games, if they can't quit directly). The utility is used to quit any emulator, regardless the original could do that or not (etc force emulator to quit).

I assume Street Fighter 4 would use joystick/buttons (6 of them) like other Street Figthers games?

I asume class should been included freeware, indy (aorund shareware prices) or commerial? or just sorted by freeware first?

And of course Future Pinball and Visual Pinball is really just a PC game, but many threat these as a emulator/system by a frontend, because they support commandline to launch a table and start the pinball simulator directly without the editor, which is  the only way to get it cab freindly. But most frontends can do that job, but some frontends just might require a wrapper to launch these tables.

For a year ago there was a big thread about this, I guess some of these still can been added here? I see if I can find it.

I like the idea of moving the relatively static content to the wiki. I'll help populate the data.

Personally, I'm most interested in freeware and indy development. There's so much great and creative arcade stuff out there, I don't spend alot of time looking at commercial efforts. The retro stuff is easier to program now, developers are sensitive to the style, and they don't feel compelled to add bling to compete with other commercial offerings. And we can freely download, enjoy, and share the free stuff. :)

I Agree. Many Indy games is really arcade cab friendly, smaller, and typical more arcade fell than these commercial games. I also like Sega games, because many of these is typical direct port of arcade games which is good point here.

I also think Lego Starwars I and II, Lego Batman and Lego Indiana Jones should been added, even I really not have played them yet, but many have installed these to arcade cabs. There might been some config problem with some games, but might been fixable. yes these are commerciel again, but many like them and I have even remember a user have designed are cab for these games alone, if I also remember correct? Howover I did not play much of these, but my fault.

Torus Trooper is a fast-paced scrolling shooter reminiscent to Tempest. It's keyboard only (hardcoded). It will most likely require you to use an utility like Xpadder or Joy2Key to adapt it to your setup but it's still worth the trouble.

You shouldn't need to dork with a utility. The default keys are all MAME defaults. It works fine on my cabinet with no modification whatsover. Here's the keys:

Code: [Select]
-- Movement     Arrow / Num / [WASD]   / Joystick

Hold an up key to increase speed.

-- Shot         [Z][L-Ctrl][.]         / Trigger 1, 4, 5, 8

Hold a shot key to open automatic fire.

-- Charge shot  [X][L-Alt][L-Shift][/] / Trigger 2, 3, 6, 7

I just checked the wiki and there's already a page for cabinet friendly indy titles:

I'll make sure to enter the cabinet friendly games that I've been posting in this forum to the wiki.

A lot of progress along the lines of what you are doing in this thread was made on this other one but it never got stickied.
You might want to go through it and lift some games from there.

Nice thread.

I think the reason this thread is far superior to all the others is that the original poster updated the list (including URLs!) in the first post so you don't have to wade through 15 pages of posts in 8 different threads to see the 'list'.  I hope it remains stickied.

Some suggestions from the older thread:

Hurrican, an original based on the Turrican series.
Marble Insanity, remake and expansion of Marble Madness
Marble Arena, original marble game with cool graphics

These are still in development but are worth keeping an eye on (look at the videos):
Another Metroid 2 Remake
Metroid SR-388 (website features down for the moment but project in development and of very high quality; look for the videos in youtube)

Just a few of the PC games I've got on my cab that I don't see on the list, (but aren't necessarily freeware).  I'd also assume that if you're adding PC games to your cab that you have a sufficient number of buttons, and that you know how to re-assign your button assignments from your keyboard encoder (Ipac for example).  Also, sorry if some of these don't have the official links included with them.

Hi guys, I`m new here but I`m not new to the hobby as such because I already scratchbuilt my own jukebox/mame cabinet. I am In the process of removing mame and putting pc games in its place

What I am really after is retro games like on mame but legal PC versions, such as compilations. I tend towards quality rather than quantity and have found the best I can come up with is the Microsoft Arcade series of games.

Microsoft Arcade
Microsoft Return of Arcade
Microsoft Return of Arcade Anniversary Edition (same as Return of Arcade but with Ms Pacman)
Microsoft Revenge of Arcade
and last but definitely not least....Microsoft Pinball Arcade.

All the above seem near ideal although so far I haven't fully tested them I have only tried the trial versions of Microsoft Return of Arcade Anniversary Edition & Microsoft Pinball Arcade. I have bought both of these but they are coming from the USA so I need to be patient.

To start with I went for Midway Arcade Treasures & Taito Legends 2 but when they came they were crippled by Starforce Protection and I couldn't even get them running on a normal PC let alone see if they are cabinet configurable. :-[

Sorry about the long post!

Just thought I'd post an update on my suggestions for compilations.

Microsoft Arcade

I have now tested this, It works ok on a cabinet but you need a mouse/trackball input for games like centipede. :-\

Microsoft Return of arcade Anniversary edition
I have now tested the full version of this and it works like a gem,  :D you will need to program your IPAC to operate menus though. buttons you need available on the control panel are: Shift, ESC, ALT, Enter, F2, F3, F4, F11 If you don't want to pause or toggle fullscreen mode you could leave off F3 F4 & F11. The only slight irritation is Ms.Pac-Man plays in a very small screen even if you go fullscreen.

I will let you all know how well Microsoft Pinball arcade works when it arrives, the trial version works great but full versions sometimes differ so I will post again after I've tested it.

I am surprised theres not more interest in this thread, come on guys make some more suggestions for compilations!

(UPDATE)
I have installed Microsoft Pinball arcade on my cabinet and it plays really well on it. I can highly recommend this compilation for anyone into Pinball. The game menu (a front end of sorts) can be navigated easily with the joystick & Enter. The game controls are fully re-mapable to whatever you want and the CD-ROM is not required if you do a full install. Its amazing the detail on this game, you can easily forget you are actually looking at a screen and not a real table.

9/10 from me, I would like to give it 10 but can't because the highscore entry needs a keyboard, not a big issue though as you can leave it as "player 1" and press enter.

That looks like a pretty good remake Mazzmn, I might have to check that out tomorrow. :applaud:

you bet! only problem I had with it was you can't run over the monsters when they are frozen/disabled after shaking the walls

Hey there is also this thread with lots of pc games that should play on a cabinet

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=7479.0

I suggest that the list be maintained on the wiki rather than the forum though
(also some guidelines here )

anyone try any of these retro games out?

http://retrospec.sgn.net/index.php

This one required a mouse (or trackball I guess) but is unique

Just noticed this Pengo remake/update freeware pretty neat
Push-Push Penguin by Army of Trolls
keyboard or joystick

http://www.armyoftrolls.co.uk/website/html/games/ppp.htm

Some others available too, great looking artwork

Tried this one today, unfortunately it wouldn't run on my cabinet, even though I set the resolution correct. The screen went black and then it went back to the desktop. Oh well, never mind. Maybe the game needs Win XP, My cab has win 98se.

on a side note, slightly off topic, how do you guys run games with different control panel configurations? I program my IPAC with the Ctrl+Alt+P command, but then if the next game I play is different controls then im stuffed again! :dunno

Time to add another classic to the list...

Doom / Doom 2

You can install Doom Legacy (http://legacy.newdoom.com/) and set up a .cfg file to auto launch it without bothering with the main menu and set it to some basic joystick/button combination.  Best part is that if you want, you can run it SPLIT SCREEN!   Nothing better than playing co-op doom with a friend splitscreen.

If you have any questions on the setup, just ask..

I use Mala as a Frontend, which has an option to set up a program to launch prior to your game, and then set the group to use to ipc file of your choice.

Thanks for your reply, I haven't fiddled much with front ends I am trying to keep setup as simple as possible on my cabinet. I guessed I would probably need some sort of front end for multiple control layouts.

Mine is very simple, I just have a Icon for each thing I want to run (4 Icons), I have the taskbar set to auto hide. Then a custom desktop background and tab and enter mapped to the control panel. All I do is press tab until one of the icons is selected, then change icons with the joystick and press my control panel Enter to run that game, jukebox etc. Its not fancy but it seems to work well on my cab.

I like the Doom suggestion :) that would be a pretty fun game to have on a cabinet.

I haven't tried it yet, but there's a game called "Bullet Candy" that looks interesting. It seems to be a sort of fusion between Geometry Wars and Ikaruga (or similar "bullet hell" games.) It's a pay-to-download, but it's only 4 bucks or so, so that doesn't seem too much of an issue. I only wish that I could find a game demo first.

Stepmania
http://www.stepmania.com

I have a cobalt flux dancepad and a PS2 to PC Adapter.  Any old dance pad will work with a good adapter to your PC.  Here is a list of supported adapters: http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/USB_Adapters

Plugged it into my Mame Arcade running Mala and everything works flawlessly.  Much better than the DDR mame options, and adding music is easy.  Very easy to find all the original ddr packs if you know how to use Google.

If you are looking to make it a more authentic game you can even enable coins.

Hyperbowl (Link to archive of original site) is awesome with a real trackball. The only problem is that you need to use the keyboard to enter player names, but I've learned to do this using the joysticks and buttons connected to my Minipac.

Get Medieval (Link) is a great Gauntlet clone. There’s a level editor for it, too.

I play the PC version of Golden Tee Golf with many addl courses. I also like Neverball (Link) and the kids like SpongeBob’s Obstacle Odyssey (Link).

I have currently running on my system:

Crazy Taxi 1/3

If you want to be all pro'er about it, go get a wheel.  I personally use a spinner w/ two buttons (accelerate/brake).  Reverse is overrated  :P

Crime Patrol 1/2
Die Hard 2: Die Harder
House of Dead 1/2/3
Mad Dog McCree 1/2
Virtua Cop 1/2

Fun little light gun games.  Low graphics, but good to just flex nuts on the sweet LCD light gun you recently purchased.  The House of Deads for the PC run absolutely perfect, and even have extra options for training, etc.  Great 'bang bang kill you dead' games for sure.

Guitar Zero (Guitar Hero Clone) - http://www.guitarzero2.proboards78.com/index.cgi

This clone is kind of new when compared to 'Frets On Fire'.  But I like this one better.  It gives a more Guitar Hero feel to it with combo stacking and what not.  I haven't tried with a PS3 guitar yet, but I would like to assume it would work.

Stepmania (DDR Clone) - http://www.stepmania.com

If you like DDR, let me ask:  What can be greater than every single DDR song ever made with an infinite pool of new songs that are being created every day.  Go have fun and dance to the mario brother's theme or baby got back.  Just get a PS3 mat or a PS2 mat + convertor and you're all set to boogie.

Are you guys just talking about free computer games? Are you just talking about ones that can run on crappy computers? Are you just talking about games that do not require a CD to Boot up… because it is pretty easy to download load a crack .exe to replace your original .exe file that will no longer requires a CD to boot the game.

On my dull core cab I have….

NHL.09 – a must have

FIFA09 – a must have

Devil.May.Cry

Tom.Clancys.H.A.W.X

Dynasty.Warriors.6

Grand.Theft.Auto.IV

Assassins Creed

Grid

Guility Gear 2

Loard of the Rings  … something

Radin 3

All the Worm games

Pure

World.of.Goo-SKIDROW

The_Simpsons_Hit_and_Run.

Mass effect

Dibalo2

Prince.of.Persia-SKIDROW

Portal-Unleashed

Burnout.Paradise.

Lego Star Wars II

I have a lot more but I grow board of looking them up.

Hydro Thunder (Eurocom version, published by Sold-Out Software in the UK)
Buy it here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sold-Out-Software-Hydro-Thunder/dp/B00005B973

The Eurocom version doesn't use the infernal copy protection that the "Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe" version did.  Only drawback is that it doesn't allow any multiplayer whatsoever, not even split screen (unlike the N64 and Dreamcast versions).  Otherwise it's arcade-perfect, and still a ton of fun to play against the computer racers.

Mortal Kombat 4 (Also from Eurocom)
http://www.eurocom.co.uk/index.php/video-games/mortal-kombat-4

Another near-perfect arcade port.

Dance Dance Revolution  (Konami)
http://www.amazon.com/Dance-Revolution-PC/dp/B0002VXTZ0/

Yes, Konami actually put out a PC version of the first DDR game.  Plays perfectly with any console dance pad with the right USB adapter.

Virtua Fighter 2
http://www.amazon.com/Virtua-Fighter-2-PC/dp/B0008E8AYG/

Graphics are not quite as detailed as the arcade original, but it still plays like a dream on an arcade cab.  Will run great under Windows XP with a little finagling (you actually have to reduce your color depth before launching the game, or it will complain).

Virtua Tennis (original)
http://www.amazon.com/VIRTUA-TENNIS-pc/dp/B0007UZJRM/

If your arcade sticks are interfacing with your PC as a keyboard, this game might give you a little grief because it only allows one player to use the keyboard as the controller.  However, by using the PPJoy and PPJoyKey utilities, you can map keystrokes from your arcade controls to virtual joysticks that are recognized by the game.

Boarder Zone
http://www.amazon.com/Boarder-Zone-Pc/dp/B00003OPDZ/

Fantastic PC snowboarding game.  You can do stunts or just all-out race.  Best played with analog controls but works great with switch-based arcade sticks too.

PC Games That Now Appear in Arcades

Need for Speed - Hot Pursuit 2
http://www.amazon.com/Need-Speed-Hot-Pursuit-2-Pc/dp/B00006CRVH/

GlobalVR turned this into an arcade game they called "Need for Speed GT". (http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=5949&image=2)  It's pretty much the same engine - great arcade driving fun!

Need for Speed Underground
http://www.amazon.com/Need-Speed-Underground-Pc/dp/B0000C0Z23/

This game was also given the arcade treatment by GlobalVR. (http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=5949&image=1).  Again, great arcade driving fun.

Star Wars Starfighter
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Starfighter-Pc/dp/B00005LABL/

This time brought to the arcades by Tsunami Visual Technologies, inc.  (http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=thumbs&db=videodb&id=5091)

The arcade version of Star Wars Starfighter actually plays more like a rail-shooter (much like Sega's Star Wars Trilogy Arcade), but the PC/console version gives you freedom of movement.

Guitar Hero III - Legends of Rock
http://www.aspyr.com/product/info/85

Brought to the arcade (Finally!) by Konami and Raw Thrills (http://www.rawthrills.com/game.php?GameID=14).

The PC version comes bundled with a USB guitar controller.  There's also an Aerosmith edition (http://www.aspyr.com/product/info/93).

Good call on Virtua Fighter 2 PC. I picked it up for $1 and am pleasantly surprised. With all the video options maxed out it looks pretty close to the original. Plus it was easy to set up with my U360's.

I can't believe the lack of bowling games.... they are perfect for trackballs!  I haven't tried these so if somebody could confirm or deny whether they work well with a trackball I'd appreciate it as I'm still in the design part of my system.  I should have it set up though by late august, early september.

I've just recieved my RAIDEN III PC CD!! (Friends in Japan Rawk ;P )

Excellent game for a cab, customizable controls, runs excellently on my old raiden 9700 mobility 64mb.  Its 3D and similar to Raiden II, very addictive!

Music pumps you up, fitting for the camera because you're zooming over landscapes everywhere! (Sorta like Ikaruga).

Runs very nice on my Monitor 640x480i! :D (Has an option to rotate screen CW or CCW 90 Degree's, or 2 different types of horizontal views).

its 2 Player as well.

Screens;

In general, I would think...
The games shouldn't need to use a mouse pointer to browse through menus or play the game.  Using a track ball for games like Hyperbowl should be ok.
The keys should be remappable to custom control panels.
It also shouldn't need a CD.

I've been running the Touhou Project games on my cab for a while.  Pretty fun "Bullett hell shooter" sub-genre of SHM-Ups

plays with 4 buttons - but you can use as little as 2 (shoot and bomb)

How do you download these games? Do you have to create an account?

http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Buying_Stuff

lists a lot of online retailers - I've pieced together my collection from these links, amazon.jp, and ebay.  There is also a demo available for the latest game 12 - Undefined Fantastic Object that came out in March - though I don't know where that's available, google should be your friend.

All the games are in Japanese - however the wiki has english patches available for all the games.

Thrustburst (Free!)
Umlautgames

Everyday Shooter
A Queasy Game

As a fair warning these games are quite difficult, and the control schemes may seem unusual on a cabinet but they are very much possible. If a challenge does not scare you then I highly recommend them and the controls are programmable.

I am surprised not to see many of the more popular indie games listed as many of them are inspired by arcade games and work perfectly on a PC driven cabinet. I'll try to remember to add more when I have had time to test them out on my cabinet.

Anyone try Jeff Minter's latest for PC called "SPace Giraffe"? Curious if that would work as I like his Tempest style games.

SYNSO, Squid Harder, WAR ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?---
http://bagfullofwrong.co.uk/bagfullofwords/

great stuff.. feels much like the Windows Grid Wars game (runs better than that at 640x480). i run the latter two. just craziness

unlike grid/geometry wars/robotron, all these use is a stick and a button (not remappable in the program it seems.. but not a problem if your button 1 is Z, Ctrl, Enter, Space.. or anything else that might actually be used to fire on a keyboard.......and there's always auto-fire so you don't need a button). clean, quick exit on a couple Esc presses

Found this one today. Remake of an old PC game called SkyRoads. It's a blast to play! Highly configurable too.  :applaud:  Should work great in a cab!

wow.. i used to play Skyroads! i'd forgotten about it.
the page you linked links to a page where you can download the old DOS game in full. i just played it fine in XP... looks like it would work fine with a cab, though you have to use something mapped to the spacebar to jump. and Enter/Esc for menus/exiting. i'll check out this remake too. thanks!

ETA: had to use VDMsound to get Skyroads' music working. http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound

does DOSbox help with resolution issues? and did music work for you? i mentioned it working fine on XP earlier, but my cab monitor flipped out over the res.   i figure DOS emulation is one more thing my cab doesn't need.. but for skyroads maybe

I remember wanting to put this in my cab years ago and had forgotten about it until reading this thread jogged my memory.  It's psychedelic asteroids.

**Update**  I now remember why I didn't add it.  Game play is cab friendly but the startup menu is not....

all these games are joystick and buttons controls.

Ether Vapor - a fantastic Shoot Em Up that switches from vertical to horizontal.

Genetos - A shooter game that lets you play through the history of Shmups. Old school to present day.
Gotta watch this video to appreciate.
Get it here.

Irukandji - One of my favorites ;D Irukandji is a fun score attack shooter, set in an abstract underwater trench. You fly your ship against the flow of hundreds of amazing procedurally animated sea monsters, blasting your way to the final showdown – a Giant Enemy Crab!

Great graphics and it only cost a $1.00. Buy it and support this guy.

Not sure if people have much luck getting Steam to work with a non-internet-enabled computer (like an arcade cab) but...

Steam's having its annual after-holiday sale, and today they're including discounts on the popcap games. You can get most of the games for $8 each, or the whole pack for $50. Thought people would like to know.

NS-Tower is a game that works well with Arcade Controls and is a great game.  It is the basis for the Arcade/GBA game Tower and Shaft along with it's sister game NS-Shaft.

The only problem I am having is trying to figure out a way to make it fullscreen.  I would love any input that might lead to a solution.

For those who are running thier cab in pure DOS (None of the DOS version of any MAME supports Dragon's Lair), the DOS CD Version of DLair is CAB friendly.
As long as you have you 1st button configured to ENTER or Enter_pad, you can play teh game flawlessly. This version however has some scene removed (Burning Rope, Circle Platform falling down). All in all, it fun and easy (no coin needed). The game continues and you start from a certain point when you reached it.

Anyone else have this in thier cab ? How about Space Ace the CD-ROM DOS version ?

I searched through the topic and could not find anyone who mentioned these, but if for some reason I just missed it I apologize for posting it again.

I have a few games to add:
Star Control 2 – or its open source port the Ur-Quan Masters.  You will need one button mapped to enter, I just map player 1.  I dont suggest playing the story mode, just Super Melee - it can be as intense as a good game of Warlords.
- Joystick and two action buttons - two player
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_control_2
http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

Braid – though I am sure most of yall know this one.  It was released on the PC but sadly has hard mapped keys.  It is still playable but may be cause more frustration than it is worth.
- Joystick and three action buttons
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braid_(video_game)

Spelunky – Think of it as a faster and friendly version of Spleunker.
- Joystick and four action buttons (six if you want to be fancy)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spelunky
http://www.spelunkyworld.com/

VVVVVV - And yes that is the name.  It is a quirky gravity platformer that you really just have to try.
- Joystick and one action button
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VVVVVV

Robotopia – Ok so this one is not known at all, I only know it because I met one of the programmers at a convention, but the game is a decent Megaman like platformer.  It just has a lot of button needs and you need to use a keyboard on first boot.
- Joystick and seven action buttons

NAMCO PC Downloads Store!
« Reply #104 on: April 16, 2010, 03:25:04 pm »

haven't seen this posted here before...
http://www.namcogames.com/pc_games/
Namco are selling finally selling some new exclusive arcade titles such as Star Trigon.  Also available are newer versions of Dig Dug and Pac-Man which look very nice for a horizontal setup.  A rehash of Burgertime is available, too, but...uh...I think I would have to try it to say anything nice about it.  Some other titles such as Quantz look good for a cabinet also.  My brief apologies if this store has already been mentioned:  I am too excited ATM to read through the whole thread.  I will try to remember to post again if these are difficult/impossible to configure for cabinet use, once I have tried any of them.

Edit: eh, sorry!  I tried some of Namco's pc downloads. They are not cab friendly unless you have a trackball and mouse buttons or mouse emulation buttons.  The Burgertime Deluxe is very ...unique.  I have yet to try Quantz and may not.  The Dig Dug is alright.  The Pac-man is really for people who do not have cabs, it seems, because the sound has a lot of reverberation and the graphics have a sort of built-in bezel reflection.  The previous PC releases are better modern versions the PAC games.  I have not played the arcade PCB of Star Trigon, and as this PC version may be the closest I get for a while unless someone sells it on eBay sometime; I think I will download the full version of this one.

Not a pc game I guess but I just added virtualgameboy to my console, so add every single gameboy/advance game to the list
I didnt even have to reconfig the controls between the p1 and p2 buttons you have them all

Also I play LightCyclesGGC, and other standalone executable pc games from the Atomic front end

Tron 2.0 actually works somewhat

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but i just dug up an old freebie game from like 2006 that is absolutely perfect for a cab, has a very arcade like menu and everything.  I started to play it a little earlier and thought about this thread.  Lo and behold, the website to download it still exists and everything. (I had it on my portable HD from years passed)

It's a combination of tetris (I guess) and a beat em up game...don't know how to describe it, you punch these guys made out of blocks and when they die, they're blocks pile up, when they get high enough, you can climb out of the arena thing and go to a bonus round based on your time left.   It even has a high score list.

Be forwarned, a lot of physics and simple 3d shapes at play here, does require at least some decent video hardware to run smoothly passed level 3.

Enjoy!

that genetos game is pretty fun.. the graphics aren't great but it's cool to see game transition from old shmups to new shmups.

I just stumbled across this great video http://www.pixelprospector.com/2010/06/235-free-indie-games-in-10-minutes/

Which gives you a couple of seconds footage from 235 different indie games, follow the instructions at the beginning of the video!

Some nice looking stuff there, but haven't had much chance to check it out yet.

Please post any cab friendly gems if you find any

I still haven't tried to launch steam games from a front end, but Razor 2 is a cool vertical shump.

Quote from: Default Keys
Use the keyboard arrows to move
your ship.
Z or CTRL shoot primary weapon
X or Enter shoot slot weapon
C or Space select Slot weapon
V or ALT select primary weapon
ESC Pause game
F10 Quit game suddenly
F11 Screenshot
F12 Cheat codes and passwords
Otherwise, they keys are can be configured from the game menu.  I have played it for about an hour and I am real happy with the $9.99 purchase.

Get Razor 2 here.  You can get a demo from the same place.

Just came across a game called Multihero ( http://multihero.sitesled.com/ )

Similar in design to Super Smash Bros. It allows you to map controls for 4 players to the keyboard.

Features characters from other games (Ryu and Spiderman for example), unlockable characters, level editor.

Not the most fantastic game but a bit of fun for a free download.

I'd love to play some Street Fighter 4 on my cab

Rolling Madness 3D

Its a vector remake of marble madness, not a lot of innovation, but all in true 3d and very pretty too!

Very cab friendly

If you have a trackball - get it!

This video doesn't show off the funky 3d viewing angles ;(

And another marble madness inspired game!

This one is much more than a straight port and should offer a longer term challenge, the gameplay seems a little more relaxed and not quite as frantic as the original

This one reminds me more of an old 8 bit computer game called Spindizzy and its sequel Spindizzy worlds.

Windows version here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/trackballs/files/trackballs/1.1.2/trackballs-1.1.2.exe/download

If you like it, there are also level packs available

I've currently installed the following pc games on my cab:
Commander Keen 1-6 + Keen Dreams
Duke Nukem II
Duke Nukem Manhattan Project
Street Fighter 4

With plans to install:
GTA2
TerrorDrome
Doom 1,2, Final
Descent? -Has anyone tried playing the descent's on cabinet? They were designed around joystick play, probably fairly adaptable to arcade cabinet.
Forsaken - Descent-type game with newer graphics. not sure how cab friendly, will get back.
Eventually, SNES and GBA emulators

I've been looking for Metroid SR388, but I haven't been able to find it, is it complete?
I found the AM2Remake, and its looking very promising, as it nears completion.

I'd love to play some Street Fighter 4 on my cab
SF4 works fine in 640x480 mode. I have it running through Hyperspin flawlessly.

Some others I haven't seen mentioned yet:

BlazBlue: CT - A PC version was released
Melty Blood - Again, a PC version was released, but I don't think it's Act Cadenza
Guilty Gear Isuka - A tag-team style version of GG
Guilty Gear XX #Reload - I saw GGX mentioned but this one also so a release.

Yep, set it up the other night. I'm still tweaking but so far this button mapping seems to do the trick on a 6-button cab set up in a standard Street Fighter format:

Btn 1: Fire Primary
Btn 2: Strafe (L-R & U-D)
Btn 3: Accelerate
Btn 4: Bank Left
Btn 5: Fire Secondary
Btn 6: Reverse

Player 2 Controls

Btn 1: Fire Flare
Btn 2: Rear View
Btn 3: Map
Btn 4: Drop Bomb

About the only control concession I had to make is to only have 1 bank control, which means I have to bank 270 degrees sometimes. Turn on auto-levelling and it becomes a lot easier to stay focused.

shank, 1 player works fine on cab.. 2 player has to be a game pad (i think).  Has anyone figured out a way to put shank on the same keyboard? I wonder if the street fighter 4 patch would work with this? it also recognizes xbox 360 controllers

The guys over at Armchair Arcade just pointed me out to a great platformer that pays homage to Castlevania. The Soul of Dracula.

Fully customizable keyboard settings, small size (6.5 megs unzipped), full screen option, perfect for a cab. Definitely going in my systems. Jumping takes a bit of getting used too but once I got it figured out it wasn't a big deal. Go get it!! Let me know what you guys think!

DAMMIT.  For fans of Terrordrome (I JUST found out about it today, about 15 days too late it would seem) they have pulled their free download of the game.  If you don't know already, it's a fighter that allows you to play famous horror movie characters...  It's free, and a fan-made endeavour, so it's sad to see it's demise.  It looks like they received multiple letters from media lawyers, asking them to remove key characters from the game.  Copyright infringement issues, I guess.

I think it would be a pretty cool game to play, albeit a bit rough around the edges.  But for free, what can you say?

Edit:   Innnnnnnteresting.  Even though their download link doesn't work, I seem to be able to massage the address and get it.  (Mods - does this constitute a 'no-no' situation on me telling people it's still available?)

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere but I'll add a few Apogee classics to the mix:

 - Bio Menace

 - Crystal Caves

 - and of course Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem 2

There's a tonne of other Apogee games worth looking into.

I just installed Shank in my cabinet too, and it seems really fun.  :applaud:

How have you addressed the navigation in the menus with your control panel? It seems that once the configuration is done, the game operates perfectly in-game, but the menu's still require mouse/keyboard.

It features fully customizable controls, so you should be able to set it up for a control panel fairly easily. I did play this on PC when it first came out, and it was pretty fun. With the voices of Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi, you can't go wrong. :notworthy:

As a side note, I could not get this to install on my 64bit arcade cabinet. :badmood:

This was in a recent post somewhere: "Super Mario X" http://www.supermariobrothers.org/smbx/
requires min 1024x768; if you can support that res, but use a lower one by default, then you could script something up which includes a res change, for example: http://www.12noon.com/displaychanger.htm

Scrabble Plus can be played with a mouse/trackball/touchscreen.

It does require you to enter a name with a keyboard to create any profiles you want to use, but you only have to do this once. Although if you want to make use of the in game dictionary, you will need a keyboard - scrolling trough a list of 100,000s of words isn't exactly practical! You could always use an on-screen keyboard that will stay on top of the game in fullscreen however - which is what I am planning on doing. Touch-It's free version is the one I use, found here - http://www.chessware.ch/virtual-keyboard/ It works and looks great on a touchscreen, plus it let's you control how transparent it is and it lets you minimise it - so it's a real good keyboard, just in case you're interested.

It's gonna be amazing in my cab!  :) I really wanted a few games that make use of the touchscreen - now I just need a chess game and some quiz games... maybe others as well, if I can find anything good.

Split/Second can also be played.  Once installed, remapping the keys is a cinch, however, it requires the Enter/Escape/Tab keys to go forward, back, and change color of your vehicle, respectively.

However, if you have AutoHotKey or AutoIt, this is a simple fix that could be done by a macro.

EDIT:  Using the SF4 keyboard fix, Blur is also playable on the cabinet, and what a fun 4 player game that is! :)

Hi, everyone.  A while ago I started maintaining a similar list of cabinet-friendly DOS games to be played on DOSBox.  I'm not sure if they have a place in a list like this, being that they're for DOS, and are therefore seriously old-school.  Anyway, here's what I've come up with thus far.

 8) These are 100% cabinet-friendly:
- Bananoid
- Battle Chess
- Beats of Rage
- C-Dogs
- Cyberdogs
- Electro Man
- Executioners
- Galactic Battle
- Jump 'n Bump
- MsPac Pc
- One Must Fall: 2097
- PC*Bert
- Pac PC
- Prince of Persia
- Round42
- Spot
- TerraFire
- Tyrian/Tyrian 2000

 :-\ These are mostly cabinet-friendly:
- Alien Carnage
- Bio Menace
- Classic Jumpman
- Commander Keen IV: Goodbye, Galaxy!
- Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons
- Commander Keen: Keen Dreams
- Dangerous Dave
- Digger Remastered
- Galactix
- God of Thunder
- Jazz Jackrabbit
- Raptor: Call of the Shadows
- Scorched Earth: The Mother of All Games
- SkyRoads
- Stargunner
- Wacky Wheels

The complete list with details and download links (for the freeware titles) is hosted the Wah!Cade wiki page:
http://wahki.mameau.com/index.php?title=Cabinet-Friendly_DOS_Games

Enjoy!  :D

I guess this thread doesn't get too many additions to it, not sure why, I guess most people still play emulators on their machines.

I do too but after the success of lego star wars on my machine I am keen to see what else can run which is more up to date and more or less friendly to cabs.  I have a keyboard tray so I dont mind using it to start up games but I would only like the gameplay to involve the arcade controls and no keyboard.

My mame pc unfortunately got placed in use in my workshop but I get to replace it, probably with an i5 and a spare 5770 I have had lying around.  This opens up more modern pc games to try.

It looks like console ports could be good candidates,  I was looking at dungeon siege 3 as a possibility.  Has anyone tried that or any other more up to date games than currently listed?

I saw a game on Steam that came out this summer called Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony. It's a horizontal screen shmup that has 4 player co-op which I have not seen in a shmup before.

Jamestown is very cool, only limiting factor for a cab is only 1 player can be mapped to keyboard.

Do any of these games play with the typical arcade cab button/joystick setup?

I bought this game from Gamersgate hoping it would be a standalone game that didn't need the steam client to run... turns out the gamersgate purchase installs steam for you and launches the game from steam.  I have nothing against steam, I just don't want it in my cab using precious memory running in the background.  Shame, it's a really awesome-looking game.

Don't think has been mentioned

Warblade (Updated version of the Amiga classic Deluxe Galaga, by the same programmer)

http://www.warblade.as/index.asp

$5.99 for full version

Cab friendly with configurable controls (hardcoded: space or f1 to start 1up, f2 for altenate 2up, f3 for coop 2up)

Highly recommended, give the trial version a go

Some really cool games can be found here at RadianGames.

http://radiangames.com/?page_id=623

I just picked up the "I love RadianGames Collection" for 19.99.

Inferno+ is a very cool game even though it is still in Beta. You do get the full version when it is released.
Beta my foot. I'm up to level 17 and haven't seen one reason why this is a beta.

Super Crossfire is a very nice looking space invaders type game.

I need to wait until Jan 24 to get the other 4 games since this was a pre-order.

Very fun and polished games so far. Well worth the money for all of that.

From the mind that brought you the R-Type-like Hydorah...

They Came From Verminest!

A three-button game, freeware, perfect for vertical cabs

Plus, it has a 3D mode (bust out those red and blue glasses!)

So many cool modern arcade games coming out for the PC that seem to play well in a cab.

Luxor Evolved.     I don't normally like this type of game but it is well done and has that Geometry wars retro look except it's more of a Puzzler.
Vessel
OIO The Game
Waves
Sideway New York
Rochard
...
...

You should be keeping your eye out at Steam Indie Games and Pixel Prospector.

Cheers

Ms. Particle Man

http://picobots.net/projects/11210599/ms-particle-man

A cool retro-styled platformer that could be controlled with either a joystick and one button or a trackball and one button.  The windows build requires .net framework 4.0 and XNA 4 installed on your cab, but other than that it's a solid game (that incidentally looks beautiful on CRTs!)

Hexagon

Done by the guy who made VVVVVV, Terry Cavanagh, this is his submission into the 2012 GDC Pirate Kart (google that if you haven't heard of it).  A very simple game that requires one button and 2-way controls (would work in a Donkey Kong control scheme).  Very fast and frustrating (in a good way :D)

Really nice game variation, shame the controls are hard coded and cant be changed - you will needs mouse or trackball with both mouse buttons to play this, plays best with a spinner - but you still need something with X/Y mouse axis for the menus.

Despite that, still very much worth a look

Probably my favorite game of all time, Winning Eleven (or Pro Evolution Soccer)!

I have Winning Eleven 8 on my machine, easily works on computers from 2005.  6 buttons and a joystick, can have up to 4 players.

Awesome soccer game!

Gal Pani X, a freeware remake of Gals Panic (itself a clone of games like Qix and Volfied)

WARNING:  Some images contained in the game, while not explicit or nude, are potentially not child-safe.

Guide your cursor around the screen, revealing the image concealed while avoiding bullet-hell.  Pretty fun, with a relaxing soundtrack and great visuals.

Endless Forms Most Beautiful

This Locomalito guy keeps cranking out the freeware arcade hits... this time we have a single-screen platformer which is a remake of a ZX Spectrum game made in 2012 (yes you read that right).

Quote
Play as Moebius or Pucky and rescue hundreds of strange creatures that inhabit unusual places. Move through teleporters and from one side of the screen to the other in a chaotic game experience that will make your neurons burn as you progress through the 15 levels.

The game is very challenging and fun, and the retro graphics and soundtrack complete the experience.  A must-download for all cabs, in my opinion.

Realistic Summer Sports Simulator

Originally a title for the iOS, it recently got a freeware port to Windows.  What this is is a collection of 15 olympic games for up to four players that are solely performed by clicking and dragging.  It's all physics-based silliness and in most cases requires more finesse from the player than the standard "roll the ball as fast as you can" games you typically see in the trackball genre.  Me and the wife had tons of fun trying to best the others' high score, specifically in the javelin event.

Super Hexagon is available on steam for $2 now, or $2.99

All you need for play is space bar, and left and right button, or 2 way joystick.

A platformer with an interesting story, hub-world, and plane-shifting mechanics.

Chompston

A freeware pac-man clone with rhythm elements and borrowed mechanics from Bomberman.  Solid game, I tried it on my rig and it was fully controllable using the joystick and two buttons, enter/bomb drop, and exit.  Even the menu system was navigable through the joystick conrols (moving a mouse cursor with directional keys, good-on the dev for remembering to include that).  Add to that the levels randomly generate and a single hi-score is kept and you have a great pac-man clone that stands above the rest for it's simplicity and fun.

Cannonball

Post by BadMouth:

Analog support has been added to Cannonball.  :applaud:
I just saw this update and haven't tried it yet.   (I will tonight!)

This isn't an emulator, but a complete rewrite in C++ by someone with a deep understanding of the game.
However, it requires MAME roms for the graphics and sound.

Cannonball is a program which allows you to play an enhanced version of Yu Suzuki's seminal arcade racer, OutRun, on a variety of systems:

60 fps gameplay (smoother than the original game)
True widescreen mode (extend the play area by 25%)
High Resolution mode (improves sprite scaling)
Time Trial Mode
Cheats
Customisable Music
High Score Saving
Western, Japanese & prototype track support
Analog & Digital controllers supported
Fixes bugs present in the original game

Maldita Castilla

Can't forget this Locomalito tribute to the Ghouls N Ghosts franchise, Maldita Castilla (which came out late 2012) is a freeware homage to one of the hardest platforming series of yesteryear.

This game is pretty bad ass.  Dumb concept for a kid friendly game - It could have done without the crass dialogue.  Great game nonetheless.  Has a NES Blaster Master Feel to it. (You need new items to get to certain areas of the game).

I als0 has to mention Maldita Castilla which is excellent:

Eggnogg

Amazing game "parody" as the authors call it, although definitely nothing tongue-in-cheek about it on the surface.  Eggnogg pits two players against one-another in a local fencing simulator, the goal being to get to the opponent's lava pit and throw yourself in it while keeping your opponent from getting to yours.  This game just came out a few days ago, so there's not really much to be found on it on youtube, but trust me, this game just FEELS right.  When you fence with your opponent, your swords clash with a wobbly feed-back that makes you feel good.  When you stab at your opponent and miss, it feels good.  When you choose not to stab at your opponent, and instead block his stab, it feels good.  When your opponent blocks your stab, it feels good.  When you take a running dash at your opponent, then drop to a low slide on the floor, just grazing under his fencing foil, it feels excellent.  When he is chasing you and tries to hurl his sword at you, and misses, it's the most exhilirating thing.  Better to play this one than to read about it.  Screenshot:

I would like to start a somewhat official list of PC Games that can be played on cabs.  Here's the my list so far:

**LISTED**
Anyone else care to add to this list?  Perhaps this is a good thing to add to the Wiki????

Hope this helps,

Hi mate. I am not being funny, but surely if you've got a trackball and two spare buttons that you can assign as mouse buttons you can play ANY pc game? Am I wrong?

Hi mate. I am not being funny, but surely if you've got a trackball and two spare buttons that you can assign as mouse buttons you can play ANY pc game? Am I wrong?

There are various reasons why a lot of PC games cannot be played on an arcade:

  • Hi-score name entry relies on keyboard input instead of letter matrix selection with the joystick (eg. almost all Popcap games)
  • Game is controlled with both keyboard input and mouse input (eg. Noitu Love 2)
  • Game has menu that requires mouse navigation, but core mechanics of gameplay are not reliant on mouse/trackball (eg. Offspring Fling)
  • Game has areas in menu that make calls to external applications such as web browser windows (eg. Icy Tower)
  • Game has level editor callable from within GUI that requires full keyboard and mouse support to use

Those are just a few of the criteria that knock PC games off of my master list (with some exceptions of course)

Dust: An Elysian Tail is a action RPG side-scroller that feels a bit like Cadash.  Great scores from critics and players on Metacritic.  A trackball is needed for menus, but Everything else can be handled with joystick/buttons.  Visuals are amazing!

Surprising they did that, as the first release was on XBox Live.

Just started having open invites to friends to come over and play on the arcade machine, and it seems as if Eggnogg is definitely the household favourite!

Here's the wife and a friend fencing in-game (actually, throwing the fencing foil LOL):

Sonic Before The Sequel

Fan-made Sonic game, stays pretty true to the first two games in spirit and in gameplay, and actually takes place between Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic 2.  I found it a bit buggy at points, and there were spots where the level design left some things to be desired, but all-in-all the graphics and music are engaging and enjoyable.

Finally found a gameplay video of that game "Eggnogg" I posted on the previous page:

This game is AMAZING on two player cabs with two buttons and 8-ways.  A must-have, and a relatively under-the-radar release.

Grand Prix is a racing game inspired by Pole Position and other racing games from the previous century. These games do not use a complete 3d system but rather a fixed view on a track that is accomplished with 2d game techniques, as explained and illustrated on Lou's Pseudo 3d Page. In Grand Prix, the ultimate goal for the player is to try and complete 8 laps, winning the gold cup. This is quite a challenge, with the clock ticking down and opponent cars getting in the way. The car is controlled using the arrow keys. The music in this game is by coda (coda.s3m.us). Sound effects were made using SFXR, and the game was programmed in Blitz Max.

Gaurodan

Quote
Long forgotten is the legend of Gaurodan, the bird of thunder, and his fight with Guayota, the fire beast. But now mankind has discovered the egg of Guayota within Mount Teide, and it is only a matter of time until Guarodan returns from the sky to fight the beast and punish us for awakening his ancient enemy.

Fly around the Canary Islands as Gaurodan, and destroy cities, armies and colossal creatures in your path throught this frantic shmup, created for the lovers of classic games that require mastering.

You'll need some mastering to play this game because controls are not the usual: you have two buttons to shoot air-air and air-ground, and you can't stop moving in the air. Guarodan is inspired by early titles like Defender, Choplifter or Sky Kid in terms of gameplay, and has a similar production style to other arcade games like Commando, Gyrodine or 1942.

Yeah, he makes great games. I've been playing more homebrew stuff that is akin to retro games more than legit commercial retro games lately. Mostly because i don't have a cab yet.  :P

Invasodado

Space invaders meets Columns?

In July of 2012 we had an invite-only mixer for single retro games, kind of like a speed-dating thing. Most of the games invited were still getting over some rather nasty divorce or separation issues. It was a nice learning experience (Dear Lord does Custer's Revenge have baggage), but it turned out to be something of a bust.

For the most part.

As it turns out, two of the guests, Space Invaders and Columns, were destined for each other. Fast forward to June 2013 and their first child is born. Much rejoicing and alcohol was had. The baby was hence christened Invasodado.

So all right, you've got the usual Earth defense routine, what with the space ship and the aliens and the always-imminent death. But, here's the fun part: aliens don't just disappear! No, apparently, these guys turn into colored blocks for some reason. Things will get messy pretty quickly, but thankfully you're allowed to clear these blocks! Just remember, you have to do both at the same time, and the aliens get faster and faster as the game goes on.

Has anyone yet mentioned Super Mario Crossover or Abobo's Big Adventure? Both are wonderful remakes-ish of old NES games. As is Retro City Rampage (is that on PC?) Mario and Abobo are online flash games, but surely someone can figure out how to rip them from the bowels of the internet and download them to play offline, right?

Oh and what about that Megaman/ Street Fighter game official sanctioned by Capcom? I never had the chance to play it yet, but I'm sure its awesome.

anyone know how to change button configs for eggnogg?

The author does state that he/she will work on a button remapping option in a future version. Maybe if we all leave enough feedback, he/she will add button config & cmd line full screen.

It looks like a lot of fun but is not cab-friendly for me.

Donkey Me Series: Series of Donkey Kong clones with various movie themes.

First game in the series is Donkey Me: Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

Second game in the Donkey Me series is being worked on. Donkey Me: Star Wars

For portal I use the joystick. A button for jump, one for shoot red, one for shoot blue, one for action button, one for look up, one for look down and one for squat. I have a 6 button layout with joystick and for the seventh button I use my coin button. So far I haven't had any problems.but I haven't played it all the way through yet.

If it's the first Portal, there's going to be quite the challenge when you get to the end. There are some things you'll have to do, which will require very quick reflexes. Good luck!

It is easy to get it working on a cab - I used the latest version of Joy2Key and it worked a charm.  As for fullscreen, I think it's one of the F keys that you hit to make it fullscreen, then each subsequent time you run it it remembers the previous setting.  Are you using a keyboard encoder that allows for unlimited simultaneous inputs, or a hacked gamepad?

To contribute, here is "Foiled", another 2-player fencing game, albeit with different gameplay than Eggnogg.  This was a student-made game, and already seems to be another party favourite:

www.foiledgame.com

Controls needed:  8-way and one button for jump/select

Check out Scoregasm!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/202410/?snr=1_7_15__13

$1.25 on steam.  Works well in cab with a mouse on a flat ledge.  I think it might be pretty cool with joystick and trackball.  Don't have a trackball installed to know for sure.

Nidhogg

A fencing simulator for one or two players with strange, lo-fi graphics and a cool soundtrack.  Includes a built-in tournament mode.  I need to upgrade my machine to get this to run at full speed, and also it claims to work with controllers but the only ones I could get it working with were my wired xbox360 pads.  U360s do not work natively with this game, you will need to configure JoyToKey in order to play it, I can't speak on any other controllers than those ones.  But let's get to the game: it plays really well as a two-player game, with a tug-of-war aspect and all kinds of moves your character can do that lends well to player discovery.  No tactic is perfect for disposing of your foe; you may have success 3-4 times in a row doing the same things, but next thing you know your opponent has adapted.  Also, there is a huge amount of satisfaction when you end up sticking your opponent and running away, or running up to a downed player and breaking his neck before he has a chance to get up.  Extremely addictive, and well-worth the 15$ pricetag for anyone with a 2-player cabinet.

Re: Nidhogg.

It looks absolutely perfect for a cab but unfortunately it's Steam-only and I've paid for it once to my desktop, hoping to transfer it - I'm not paying for it again *and* having to run Steam on my cab.

Disappointing that there is no way to transfer the game when you have paid for it...

[EDIT - I have managed to hack the Nidhogg clone, Eggnogg using Auto-Hotkey to re-map the controls to standard MAME:

Code: [Select]
#SingleInstance Force
Run, eggnogg.exe
r::Up
f::Down
d::Left
g::Right
a::RCtrl
q::RShift
Up::w
Left::a
Right::d
Down::s
ESC::ExitAPP

Haven't played it in earnest with 2 people yet but I'm keen.

are these free?? particularly Crazy Taxi so i don't have to try and get a Dreamcast emulator to work

Quote
GTA Vice City:
Is NOT a arcade friendly game at all, since it designed with use with a xbox/ps3 controller in mind and not with arcade cab in mind. How can you really use a 2 analog controllers AND buttons simulations at once? You can't really do that with a normal arcade controls most use.

Great to hear!

Getting back on topic!  That Crimzon Clover: World Ignition game is fantastic!  Thanks again for the suggestion!

"You have to win the game"  - arrow keys/ z key or up key to jump

"Super win the game" - haven't played but I assume it's the same as the last.

"The impossible game"  - arrow keys for menu and configurable jump button.

"Geometry Dash" - uses arrow keys and space bar

Odallus is a fantastic NES style game which has many similar points with Castlevania.

Sorry, I meant to say:

Does it happen to have re-mappable inputs?

Yes you can remap keyboard and gamepad inputs. No need of a mouse.

The fantastic shmup, Eschatos, previously only available for owners of Japanese XBox 360s is now released on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/378770/ I recommend getting the Wonder Pack, as you then also get Judgement Silversword too.

Ten days from now, CAVEs beautiful shmup, Mushihimesama HD, previously only available for owners of Japanese XBox 360s, will appear on Steam too: http://store.steampowered.com/app/377860/ Let's hope enough people buy this so they continue to port the rest of their previously unreleased (home ports) games. Sure, many of their later games can be played in MAME now, but the emulation isn't very good, and this is an HD port.

A shameless plug also for an indie shmup called ZenoHell, also on Steam. It's a 90's style shmup with high difficulty and a 28 track soundtrack by yours truly: http://store.steampowered.com/app/402030/

Pinball FX2 tables are on sale most 75% off but a few are 25% and 50% off.
Only tables/packs not on sale in some form are "Balls of Glory" which is Archer, Family Guy, Bobs Burgers, and American Dad! (its $9.99) , Plants Vs Zombies (its $2.99) and the just released "Marvel's Women of Power" pack which is 2 tables for $6.99.

copy-pasta from my build thread.

Mystik Belle by WayForward looks pretty neat.  Has a 16bit/32bit arcade platform / run-and-gun feel to it:

the "new" one? requires a controller, or at minimum WADS+other keys+Mouse ; not a good fit for arcade controls.

Hi guys,

I link a similar topic but more CRT Emudriver compliance. It's interesting to know which modeline is the best for non emulated games (pixel perfect, no tearing, etc.)
