control panel templates
« on: June 26, 2002, 06:18:32 am »
I did a search first and didn't find what I want.   I got all the stuff I need for a two person control panel similar to the HotRod joystick.  In the Examples link, I have clicked a number of pages and found a few people that have templates to download but the link is bad.

Does anyone have a template similar to the HotRod joystick to download?  I just want to be able to locate the joysticks and buttons. I know many people have measure and draw lines.  I am not good at that.  I may move the player 1 and player 2 apart a little to make room for a 4-way joystick if the template doesn't provide one.

Also does any one know the dimensions for the control panel like the HotRod joystick especially the angle part and the amount of space in the front. I don't want to cut up some board and find out that the joystick touches the bottom board.

Yes, I am making a big control panel that will sit on my desk.

in this folder are pictures of my control box, some (the ones with A after the name) have measurements. at the bottom is a pdf file of my 2 joystick, 6 button each layout. go crazy! feel free to use it however you want (cut it up, readjust everything etc)

ps - the angle is 10 degrees.

can you read a visio file ??

I used visio to created a drawing of some sort... it is to exact measurement....

for buttons... you only need the center... but for joysticks... you need the 4 corner for screws and center hole for joysticks...

if you can access visio, plz let me know... I'll upload it  somewhere so that you can download it...

Yeah,  someone at the office has Visio.  The old version before Microsoft bought them.   I am sure they won't mind to print out something for me.

Thanks.

try going to the following site...
http://www.geocities.com/hyiu/Arcade/pics/
download the stick.zip, it has only 1 file inside...
stick.vsd (visio file)

it has 3 pages....
the first page is the template drawn to scale...
(plz ignore the other pages... its my sketches
here and there... too lazy to erase....)

now... a couple of things...
you'll see the scale is in cm instead of inches...
(that's the only way I can make it precise...)
the joystick mount is for Happs Super or Competition
or compatible.... for it to work... you drill a button size hole right in the middle for the shaft... (size 1 1/8 ) and the 4 corners of the rectangle is for the mounting screws... (screw hole is good enough....)

the buttons are for Happs push buttons...
the buttons circle sizes are like 1.5 instead of 1.125....
it is because the ring underneath is actually bigger
than the top... and I personally think this is close
enough.....

feel free to play with it..... (I originally has 8 buttons instead of 6... but its easy to just copy and paste to add buttons....

if there's other questions... plz let me know...

ps: its printing to 8.5 x 14 paper... if you want 2 players, its easy... print 2 copies and align the 2 horizontal lines and tape it together....
