TV ratings

I just read a story about some show called Lipstick Jungle. Apparently it is getting cancelled. Anyways, I don't care about that. In the last line of the article, one of the stars was calling for fans to watch the show live to boost ratings. THAT is the problem with today's TV.

You see, it doesn't matter what me or you watch live on TV. If you don't have a nielsen box, then you don't truly count. Everyone knows that now, so they use TIVO or the internet - the ways their vote CAN be counted, to show what shows they truly watch.

And guess what? The shows with the highest Tivo and online numbers are the ---smurfing--- shows being cancelled. Apparently they only give those boxes to f'ing retards who watch 10 hours of crime dramas a week!

The creator of Heroes, Tim Kring, said it best in an interview a while back. "The only people setting aside time to watch shows live are the people too stupid to realize they don't have to."

Sorry for the rant, but it is very frustrating that the shows I watch are always the ones on the potential chopping block. (Except for Heroes - I wish it was on the chopping block.)

shardian:
I have seen zero minutes of the show.

That's what happened to the show "Jericho" They canceled it, people protested with peanuts and so they brought back the show for one more season with the stipulation that in order to keep the show on the air, they had to watch it live. http://www2.TB.com/content/2008/may/10//

Well . . . the fact is, people are just ---smurfing--- stupid.  Shows like Everybody Loves Raymond and Big Bang Theory and American Idol and Ugly Betty are tops in the ratings because they truly are the shows that the most people watch, not because Nielson Media is selectively choosing who to give a box to.  People just have ---smurfy--- taste, frankly.  It's why romance novels exist.  It's why the Lifetime channel exists.  It's why Britney Spears and Puff Daddy or P Diddy and Manheim Steamroller and Celine Dion sell gajillions of albums.  It's why movies like Speed and Titanic and Pearl Harbor and Transformers are ---smurfing--- monster box office successes.

There's nothing wrong with the ratings.  There's something wrong with human beings, I'm sorry to say.

Ummmmm...I liked the transformers.  ;)
