Anyone ever kill a controller interface / static issues

I decided to mess with the wiring today...To begin I started up Robotron and saw that it was auto-firing to the left, as it has since my (last batch of) problems began. I then crawled in the cab and wiggled some wires...Robotron kept firing away, still giving indication that Joy1 Left is stuck in the "on" position.

Can someone please tell what the heck is happening? What can I do to fix this? Why does my computer think Joy1 Left is always on, even though nothing is plugged in?

Note: I'm running nlited XP per SpyStyle's instructions, mameui32, and mala

I blew a chip on an IPAC a couple of years ago. I think it was a control panel wiring thing, but never figured it out for sure. Sometimes I have to hit ESC a couple of times before the PC will accept a mouse click. I think something somewhere is stuck, contacts are touching, or grounding is poor. But I never found the issue and my problems are intermittent so I don't dwell on it.

I hope you figure it out...

Is Joy1Left the only thing you have mapped to "Left" in MAME?  Is it also mapped to keyboard left and your keyboard is malfunctioning?

In the test you described, can you exit the game, come back in, and is Robotron still firing left?

Just for the record, I've been using a GP-Wiz40 for a few weeks now with no problems (when are we going to do a Tin Star competition?).  And if anyone is going to screw up the wiring, it's me.

Last I checked it was still auto-firing left...even with the input wire pulled out!
drawfull:
Check the input pins on the PS2 keyboard connector for shorts. Maybe.
