Switched powerstrip dieing? Anyone else have this happen?
« on: December 01, 2008, 05:13:01 pm »
In my Mame cab I have one of the switched powerstrips, the kind where if I hit a power button for the cab it turns on the pc, monitor, speakers, and cabinet lights.  I recently hit the cab power button and the powerstrip started making a loud ringing/cracking noise.  I promtly unplugged it for fears of not knowing WTF was going on.

Anyone else have this happen to them?  If yes, is it fixable, or merely time to buy a replacement?

Here is what it is.

I used 12 volt relay wired into the power strip.
No problems at all. (Knock on wood!)

I'd say it's time to buy a new one.

I just replaced my smart strip because the old one would not switch on from the new PC in my cab.

They are cheap, relative to the time you'll spend diagnosing and making a bunch of trips to the store for parts and stuff.

Old, but not obsolete.

I had that product, new, but I couldn't get it tuned in to consistently turn my accessories off & on w/ my PC, so I gave it away & got a Sears Craftsman one instead...

[Yes, I know, that doesn't helpyou w/ your problem--sorry for being a tad off-topic]

Thanks,

I'd look into warranty information.

Could you possibly post a link of what you got from Sears.... I looked and cant seem to find a switched outlet similiar to what I had.  Thanks.
