NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA & Atari Layout
« on: November 25, 2008, 05:58:28 pm »
Here are 5 layouts; NES, ATARI,  GENESIS, GBA and SNES.  I thought someone else could use them too.  (Sorry, I didn't attach the layout file)

The Atari layout had to have the TV height reduced because 90% of the Atari snaps were rectangle shaped.  (Since there are varying sizes to Atari screenshot, just make sure you uncheck "Keep aspect ratio" for screenshots in GUI>OPTIONS>PICTURES AND VIDEO)

The NES cart uses box screenshots(this was before I found all the actual cart scans but it still looks fine) and the TV is snaps (of course)  This one is 800x600 but looks fine when stretched to 1024x768

The others are 1024x768

The lists use Arial font unless you can find a better one.

NES

Atari2600

Super Nintendo

Sega Genesis

GBA

I like it.  You should upload it to the MALA web site.  I think you might have gone a little too "Retro" on the TV, but other than that it looks really good.

Any chance of doing higher resolutions?  1024x768, 1600x1200?

What did you use to make create the background image, Photoshop?

I had that kind of TV in the 80's. lol

I guess I can make them 1024x768 from now on.

Thanks, and yes... it was done in photoshop.

Thanks for the layout Sardu.  It's a lot more fun and interesting then the last layout I was using.  The TV was a great idea as well.

Great job Sardu!  These definitely need to go to the Mala website.  I wanted to ask, how complete are the cart scan sets that you found?

Thanks  ;D

The cart scans on localarcade says, "770 of 855 games" but the box scans are "799 of 855".

The blank area on the cart I made fits the box scans though.  It would have to be a little longer for the cart scans.  You could just overlap the bottom "bevel" part of the sticker area anyway if you wanted to use actual cart scans and it would probably still look fine. (hope that makes sense)

I just realized that all screenshot/art size related issues can be fixed when you uncheck "keep aspect ratio of pictures" in  GUI > OPTIONS > PICTURES AND VIDEO.   ::)

Where did you get your artwork from?

Can you post your .mll files as well?

The "artwork" is just shot of the consoles, carts, etc that I googled and put together using Photoshop.

The layouts with .mll files should be available soon on http://malafe.net/   (I hope, Loadman  ;D )

The NES one is there already.

At some point I ahve to go through and group these layouts into 'packs' to make browsing and downloading a bit easier

Saw all these on the MALA website except for the GBA.  Do you have the layout file for that one?

Wow, these are pretty close to EXACTLY what I was looking for in my build.  Awesome design! Do you have any plans on making ones for other systems (i.e. Playstation, Nintendo 64, or Arcade)?  I'd love to be able to use the similar-looking template layouts for all the choices in my cabinet.

Also, do you know if I would be able to replace the screenshot that shows up in the TV with a clip (any type of movie-type file) for various games? I haven't futzed around with actual layouts yet (just drawing how I would like them to look), so not sure if they're able to do that with Mala or not!

Anyway, not trying to change the topic of the thread - PM if you think it's not appropriate for this thread.

Again, two thumbs up on this awesome layout! :applaud:

EDIT: Okay so I think after reading several "video" threads here that my 2nd question is a "yes", still wondering about the PSX etc. though :)

I love these layouts and was just wondering if you had any plans to do any more console layouts?  An N64 layout would be cool, but I wouldn't want to ask you to put something together you have no intention of using.  Either way, thanks for the contribution to my machine!

I  would have use for a N64 layout but I've just been super busy with other things lately.   I'll see if I can do one this week.
