PAC Drive and 12volt power supply issue
« on: November 05, 2008, 12:52:56 pm »
Hi Guys

First post here, so sorry if I dont make a lot of sense.

Nearly completed my first and LAST Mame cabinet and I am having trouble with the last awkard bit...

I have a PAC drive (http://www.ultimarc.com/pacdrive.html) which I bought to drive LED buttons and lighting it works great at lighting the buttons at 5volts.

I bought from the Ebay a strip of 36 ultra bright leds for ambient cabinet lighting. This led lights need a 12volt power supply which I have. When the led strip is connected directly to the 12 volt power supply they work. However according to the Ultimarc website I should be able to connected posistive wire on the LED strip to the 12volt power supply and the negative wire on the strip to a port/input on the PAC Drive board, so I can control it with GameEX front end LED plugin, so things like flash the lights, turn them on and off, attract mode etc.

When I wire up a led button to the PAC drive and test it using the GameEx plugin everything works just like it should, but the button is connected to the PAC Drive with both posistive and negative wires so the PAC Drive is actually powering the button, however when I try the exact same set up with the led strip with posistive wired to 12volt power supply and negative to the PAC Drive nothing happens.

I dont understand what I am doing wrong, anyone any ideas please?

There is a diagram on the PAC Drive website which I used for all the above (http://www.ultimarc.com/pacdrive.html)

Thanks

Rab
