I used to play a MUD nonstop about 9 years ago (pre-WoW days, all text based Multi User Dungeon for all you young peeps).  Very addictive.

Wife and I were addicted to mudding as well. Sanctuary first, then Illusions of the Mind. Hard hard hard habit to break.

I did MUDs, but never dug how you lost everything you had won when you logged out.  I was, however, a heavy heavy MOO user back in the day.  Think of MUDs but object oriented with user generated content.  Then consider that it was mostly ubergeeks trying to get laid.  So, yeah.

What MUD were you playing?  I never lost anything when logging out.   In fact, my character still exists in Moongate, with all my EQ and inventory.
