to hang over or not to hangover...that is the question

hi all,

i am in the process of building the control panel for my cabinet and i have hit a snag. i plan to only have two joysticks, six buttons each and some admin buttons on the cp, will this look weird if i have a 30" wide cp? will it look bare and empty without a trackball thrown in? i was thinking about making it smaller so that it wouldn't have any overhang to counter the problem which isn't really possible now that i have already cut the cabinet sides to accommodate an overhanging cp, is this necessary?

another quick question... i plan to do the |              | shape for the front of my cp, do people recommend that i have to box thingy underneath the cp top  follow the  same   \_______/  shape for the front as the top of the cp or just have as straight front

thanks

G1zm0:

if its a 3" trackball you are installing, the mountain plate is about 9" so straight away it takes up about 10" so that leaces 10" for your set up.

ive did a golden tee cp, the trackball plate in that is about  14" so i didnt have much space for the  rest of set up, so i cut into the mountain plate to install button holes.

so meausure the plate and that will let u know what space you have to play with.

my cp hangs over the side a tab (about 1" each side)

do what ever sets the look of the cab off, if its 4 player set up, as i was going to do then i asked how many times will i use this set  up, 2 player maby better as there is only few 4 player games, the second graph you made \____/ looks good

DaOld Man:

My first CP was right at 30" wide (27" I think).
I had 2 joysticks, 6 buttons each, and the admin buttons at the top, no trackball (yet), much like you are planning to do. I dont think it looks bad at all.
But a word of advice: Leave enough room for a trackball if possible. Later on you will most likely want to add one.

Yes the mounting plate is 9 inches if you look at the digit upside down.  ;) It's actually 6.5"

30" inches sound ok. As long as you can play the games you like and it looks decent, that's all that matters. Unless your a sick twitch who strives for perfection, then nothing is ever good or right enough.
