| HAPPS USB Trackball issue, 2 questions |

1. So I recently replaced the USB / optic boards on my HAPPS TB. The windows message I get when the device is plugged in is “A device attached to this computer has malfunctioned. Windows does not recognize this device”. Which repeats over and over as Windows tries to read the device. I was told by the vendor that this means the device is fine and I have some sort of USB conflict. The thing is, it does this on a couple of other PCs, one of which is a fresh XP install. The other thing is that this is the same issue I originally had with my USB HAPPs TB after 6 months of use and the reason I got the replacement boards. If any one has any ideas as to how resolve the USB conflict if in fact that is the issue I would be quite the happy camper! 2. I have a spare optiwiz and a spare optics board left over from the old HAPP USB, hopefully meaning I could remove the USB+Optics board that is not working and use the extra non-USB optics only board. Is there any instructional on how to interface the optiwiz with a HAPS optics board? Thanks in advance P |

1. That message means either something is worry with the board, so it doesn't correctly identify itself to the PC on plug in, so the PC can't deside what driver to use (most likely), or your PCs have corrupted ID-driver list. IOW, since you tested on multiple PCs, one a vanilla install, the vender is full of it and the board is bad (or the cable is bad). 2. The OptiWiz is pretty well labeled. I thought GGG had a TB to Optiwiz harness, but can't find it in the 2 seconds I gave myself. You can make your own; here's a pinout of the happs boards. BTW, I prefer the arcade sensor board to high quality encoder (GGG's or ultimarc's), over happs USB board. Good luck! |

I still had my old one from the other board that fried and what do ya know? IT WAS THE CABLE!! On inspection it looked absolutely fine, after all it was brand new. I can't freak'n believe it.
