Scott's Arcade aka NeoMAME

(1/3) > >>

Malenko:
ahhh the trusty 2 slot cab nobody wanted:

then I got the idea to just restore it:

then I saw the South American NeoGeo cabs:

then painted it Blue:

re-added the neo geo control panel and marked it for drilling:

Everyone else has a picture of their dad doing something, so here is my dad drilling the pilot holes for the metal punch:

Heres the cab as it looks today:

Its got the arcade monitor running in it using Soft15, same computer from my Mortal Kabinet (for now this cab is already pre-sold and the lady is supplying her own PC)

All that is left to do is order the art for it in whatever theme she wants and making a door to cover the keyboard/mouse, and latch access.

For all the die-hards out there, this is FULLY REVERSIBLE, just plug the holes in the CP or just put a new overlay on it and cover it with new plexiglass. And yes, thats new T-Molding

EDIT: "named" now; no Im not Scott, and thats NOT me in the picture

cmoses:
Can you give some more information about what you did to the metal control panel?  I have one on a cab that I am MAMEing and would consider altering the current one if I knew more about the process.  Otherwise I may have one fabricated.

It looks as though you added a few holes as well as filled some in?  I have never used a metal punch, how is that?  How big of a hole can you make with one?  I am hoping to add a trackball to mine.

looks good....   Is that oil based paint or is this a latex paint?

I double punched the hole. I drilled a 1/8" hole then ran a 5/8" punch through it. then I ran a 1" punch through the 5/8" hole. The metal punch I used is for conduit and therefor the holes come out a little bigger then the hole punch size. The 1 inch punch makes a hole about 1 and 1/16th which is just about perfect for a button. The biggest punch I own does a 2" hole but I think they make a 2 1/2" or 3" one. I didnt fill in the extra hole because I dont know if the lady wants a 6 or 7 button set up so its just covered with vinyl for now, and plexiglass later. I will say this, Samurai Shodown is weird to play on a SF layout.

If you have the option of fabricating one then I'd go that route then if you ever decide to revert it back, its easier.

Enamel  paint (oil based) sprayed with a nozzle hooked to an air compressor. The paint is a 3:2 mix of paint to thinner and the color is AMAZING in person. Im going to work on dremeling out the plexiglass holes

Malenko:
redid the control panel. buttons weren't "square". Cut the plexi out, drilled the holes, printed some artwork up, cut the holes out of it, reinstalled the buttons, put the washers on top of the plexi, and rewired the IPAC2

relaid down the base "leature texture" vinyl
