Rakae:

I have been having a hard time finding any good reviews on 4 way joysticks.
Let me know what you guys think.

Thank you in advance.

WICO!

Are you looking for something that is currently in production or do you want to look for an out-of-production used or NOS one? Do you want leaf switches or microswitches? Rubber Grommet or spring centered? Also, what is your favorite 4-way game? For example, if you are primarily a Donkey Kong fan, you may want a Nintendo joystick (spring centered; microswitch), either an original or a reproduction from MikesArcade. If you are primarily a Pac-Man fan, you may want to find an original Midway 4-way joystick (grommet centered, leaf switch). For a readily available general purpose joystick that is adjustable for 4 or 8 way operation, both the Sanwa JLW and the Seimitsu LS-32 are high quality joysticks (spring centered; microswitch). A 4-way Wico (grommet centered, leaf switch) is a good general purpose 4-way as well, if you can find one (they are long since out of production).

There is also the Happ Reunion joystick (spring centered; microswitch), but this is not a true restricted 4-way; it is essentially a Happ Super with a red balltop. They are technically 4-way joysticks because the actuator in its flipped state can't trip two switches at once, but they don't have a physical 4-way restriction like dedicated 4-way sticks do. However, GroovyGameGear makes a physical 4-way restrictor for Happ Supers, and I believe it will work on the Happ Reunion joystick as well.

The general consensus seems to be to stay away from the made-in-China Wico-knockoffs that you find in various places for cheap. I've never tried one myself.

Maxim gave you a pretty accurate and detailed post regarding most of your choices.  Outstanding write up Maxim.

If you are interested in physically restricting a joy, check out SirPoonga's recent thread regarding an Oscar Controls restrictor plate.

I agree. Nice write up Maxim.

Many people overlook these from GGG for restricting a Happs Super:
