Anyone have a Leapster for their kids?

(1/2) > >>

My son is turning 4 in December and for his birthday or Christmas we were think of getting him one.  Still have to look into whether we are getting a Leapster or a Leapster 2

Anyone else have one?

ChadTower:

My kids had a couple of them.  They liked them but both progressed past them really fast and liked regular books a lot better.

2600:
Yeah, my son loves books, but can't read yet.  I think we were also thinking that it would be a good gift when we takes trips.
I'd love to get him a DS, but I think he is too young for it.

I have another son who is 15 days old, so he could probably get the hand me down without any problems.

If he's 4 he may not be too far off from reading.  Both my kids could read at 4.  I don't think the Leapster had anything to do with it, more that my wife is a preschool teacher, but they did use the Leapster some.  I imagine the Leapsters are better now than they were 3-4 years ago, too.

That's true.  He know his letters and is asking about what each word is.  He just started Preschool 2 so maybe that will part of the curriculum as well as what we do at home.
