Extreme Arcade Home Arcade on sale at Sears
« on: September 12, 2008, 10:53:40 am »
I know almost everyone here prefers to build their own stuff from the ground up, but I know before I built my cabinet, I was looking for any solution I could find to live the dream.

Anyway- I saw this today on and thought I'd pass it on.

Dude... that says it has a high res monitor in it... that alone, if really a high res, is well worth the $400 if it's not just a PC monitor.

Monitor is generic computer monitor, so not original arcade accurate (but at least looks like built-in to the non-arcade fanatics).

It's in the customer reviews section for the product. This reviewer also has a MAME cabinet, so probably knows his stuff.

Yeah... though, at $400 with artwork and everything already working, it's a great deal, IMO.

Anyone know what runs this?  Is it a PC or arcade style boards?  In other words can a trackball or spinner be added and other games?  Via cartridge is fine too.  I'm thinking for my grandson so it doen't have to be anything great, to him being six it would be cool no matter what it is. :)

I was thinking about buildinging him a bartop style but for $399 I doubt I could build one for that price... however I would have more flexibility.

From everything I've read/heard about this, it's a complete piece of crap. The controls and buttons are substandard, the build is crappy, and it's just not worth it.

Also, this appeared on a deal site 2-3 weeks ago and was sold out everywhere then... ;)

And most people who are not on this website could not care less about Happ buttons vs something a little lower quality.

As I mentioned...  I'm not looking at this for me but as a Christmas present for a six year old.  He was up for a month over summer and he loved my Mame cab, so to him this would be just like papa!  So for him the price isn't bad and he doesn't need a super cab, but...  doesn't look like many games he'd like at his age.

And Missle Command and Crystal Castles without a trackball??  Why even include trackball and spinner games?

Well it's a moot point...  it's not available in all zip code areas.  Guess I will be building the little guy a bartop as planned.  Probably better that way anyway, I can include the games he actually likes and plays.

Not sure if you agreed or were disagreeing...but that's EXACTLY the point.  The people saying this were people that weren't on this website...

I believe the specific example was a joystick breaking within a month and a few buttons stopping working in a similar time frame - under use by kids of 6-10.

If you got it for $400 and replaced with some happ buttons and joysticks, you're still looking at a pretty good deal for the money for someone that doesn't want to customize hardware or software.

To me, the only deal breaker would be if the games were ports like those crappy tv joystick game things instead of original rom images.

for anyone thinking of building just the cab, I think this is already worth the money if you build the cab yourself from scratch.

Buy it, and then MAME it.....  :applaud:

The picture on Sears website shows "Chicago Gaming Company" on the front of the CP. Here's the manual. Whatever is running the games is inside the CP. And the monitor appears to be a VGA computer monitor.

i dont like how it looks, kinda like a bartop with a ---smurfy--- box under it to make it look like a full size machine. i wouldn't buy it simply for the fact that i am very rough on my joysticks when i play and it would suck and be embarrassing if friends came over and couldn't play coz they were broken or in bad condition.

check availability in your area! "not available" in even my nearest large metro area, Minneapolis/ Saint Paul. Seems like a decent deal for $399. If it isn't up to par, just start modding.

Mm. Already gone near me. I wouldn't buy this, I'd get an empty real cab instead, but for regular folk, sure.
