Game competition #2: Mame - Jungle Hunt
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:49:33 pm »
Okay, since Destructor didn't pick a game, I did. Again, the following conditions:

- parent set, default settings

- use any mame version or variant you wish

- period is two weeks from today, 8.28

- high score wins (a tie means there's more than one winner)

Okay. Here's a decent run. To me, a decent game is clearing the first set of screens on my first guy. Which I did....and then it went down hill.

I don't know about other versions of MAME, but I used WolfMAME106, and junglek is the parent ROM (Jungle King). I used the US version of Jungle Hunt, since you had Jungle Hunt as the title. Got to the 3rd alligator level on my first guy, then crapped out after that ;) Died right before the end of the level, and got 22,500: (also saved the .inp)

Thanks! Actually just got 27,150 Those 3rd level boulders are really tough! They don't come out evenly spaced (at one point, 3 small ones fly out, but group together if you jump them on the right side of the screen)

Not bad for a 1st try - 11,400.  I seem to die in the swimming part the most.  :-(

You know you jump higher if you push up. Or maybe there's a special trick there?

Cool. Yeah, getting munched is a common fear I think. So I tend to stay near the top till a beastie comes and then get just under them before I knife. Of course, you have to swim full speed when the bubbles (I always thought they were jellyfish) come and then quickly duck down and then knife.

Of course! I doubt I could get that high if I didn't do that ;)

That's what I thought, but thought I'd ask anyway. Already we're coming up on the deadline.  And I have yet to play again.

I am going to be so in on these threads when I get my cab playable (someday).

It'd be awesome if there was a seperate section of the forum just for these threads, and the original poster could keep the original post updated with a top 10 list for that particular game.  We'd have our own BYOAC leaderboards.

I'd be willing to maintain a couple of these threads.   Prepare to weep at my Ikari Warriors score.

Heheh. Cool, isu, I was wondering if that kind of support would crop up. We'll see how it goes. Right now, this is enough.

Okay. I've been playing other games. After time, but thought I'd do another run. Landed wrong on the last vine and got bumped off by the monkey and landed in the water. Hurray. And then I died twice. Oh well. Anyways, CrazyKongFan is the winner. He can pick another game, to be started on the 15th, or I will if he hasn't.
