What kind of monitor is this?
« on: August 28, 2008, 03:26:05 pm »

I'm trying to determine if this is a multisync monitor or not.  The lady selling it didn't really have any information on it, but it looks like a presentation monitor.  I didn't have much luck searching the #27V 'model' number.

kinda looks like the gateway destination type monitor and time era.

may only be vga but it does have all the goodies on the back so it is hard to tell.

If there are no distinctly identifying marks or stickers or whatever, I'd suggest dropping by with a computer set up with soft15. I've done that before.

Yeah that was my plan if I couldn't get anyone here to identify it.  I wonder if Soft15khz would work on a laptop?

This monitor was actualy imported by Pentranic... made by Chun Yun (Albatron) in Taiwan. It supports 640X480 and 800 X600 at 38Khz.

The box on the back is sort of like a tv converter, converts normal cable tv, SVideo or composite video to VGA, It then loops back into the monitor.

Hope this helps... if you need more e-mail me direct.

Thanks Rick!
So it won't do 15khz CGA resolutions then?  Bummer.

Update:
picked it up today.  It's in better condition than I thought.  Perfectly healthy looking screen, no burn in or scratches.  And Rick was correct.  It does 800x600 and 640x480 resolutions.  Very crisp display, although fine text is a bit 'wobbly' in windows.  I'll have to look into that.  The box on the back is nice in that I can use this as a TV for now (until my arcade monitor in the MAME cab dies that is!).  Another problem is it's missing a remote, so I'm going to have to do some searching for that.  I'm hoping I can pick it up with a universal remote code of some sort.  Anyway, pretty good deal for $25!  Here are some pics:

Oh. Yeah, certainly great deal. Looks like you got the brightness or/and contrast turned up wacky, though. The screen is backlit. (Hey, that deserves a special post.) You might try to find out its refresh limit. Recently, I saw a monitor that was apparently VGA/SVGA yet it's refresh limit was 160hz! In which case, it should be capable of high-refresh native modes.

Yeah I haven't adjusted anything yet.  It looks way worse in the pictures.  I think I exposed the pictures too long or something -- the brightness isn't that bad in person.

I'm definitely going to be checking craigslist more often!
