how to wire up relay

Pages: (1/4) > >>

G1zm0:

i want to power everything on my cab from single switch (pc) so i got a  relay,

relay details...

model bta6-2c-j-cw-12vdc

 8 pins on relay

10a@24v
10a@28v
cos.0=0.4 5a@24v
l/r=7ms 5a@24v

i got the mount aswell it has 2x4 contacts.

i know i put a 12v line to the coil someware, prob pins 2&7 as they have a box with a diagonal line it in,

havent a clue where to get the 12v from (pc psu prob)

and would i need a diod so when  the coil field collapsies it doesnt send a spike?

BobA:

A protection diode is wired across a DC coil in such a way so it will not conduct.   It will only pass the spike that is created when the field on the coil collapses.

Your relay coil is at pins 2 and 7.   The polarity is not set unless you have and LED indicator in your relay.  Just remember where you put the +12V and that is where you put the striped end of your diode so it does not conduct when voltage is applied.

See this thread.

thanx guys, where will i put the mains voltage? does that go to  any pins except the coil? and the monitor would go
to any   pin aswell? do i just bunch the nuteral wires together and connect to house  mains?

Teebor:

The supplier of the relay should have a circuit diagram for the Relay

I cannot find any info for that relay model you gave on the net :(

You should have 2 pins that with a low voltage applied will activate the Relay and then you should have another 2 pins (or more depending on the relay) that will remain open when the relay is not active and will be closed when it is active
There will then be two more pines that are the opposite, closed when not active and open when active

A multimeter is very important to have here as if you do not have a diagram it can help you work out what pins do what

Are you sure the relay can handle the 120v/240v that you intend to put through it?
