Game competition: Mame - Shinobi
« on: August 10, 2008, 11:56:29 pm »
The terms are simple:

- game is Shinobi; any mame version or variant/build is fine, albeit any use of cheats.

- post screenshots here; game talk accompanying them is fine, though please keep extraneous conversation to a minimum. Perhaps a conjoining thread on detailed talk about the game in session would be appropriate.

- there are two different sub-competitions: score, and mission completion.

- there will be a winner for each sub-comp.

- the comp will run for two weeks starting Monday, August 11th at 12am, and ending on August 25th at midnight Mountain Time.

(If this goes further, and someone is interested in keeping track of points for the whole year, they can stand up at that time.)

Have fun!
Yo. Chocolate.

Ironic .... I just broke out my Shinobi boardset to use on my test bench.

Might just have to see how bad I really am at it.  ;D

My cab aint finished yet :(

Can we have these competitions every 2 weeks?
Winner chooses next game?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

No, I will not play this time. I ask because maybe someone knows more tricks than me.
I can add word that score over 780k is possible without problems on current Shinobi's versions on MAME. Maybe even is possible 800k but playing must be super perfect ;)

you mean that there is an ending to the game instead of restarting at level 1-1 ?

If you can complete the games several times you can go over that 800K score not?

or does the game ends after defeating the last end boss instead of restart at level 1 again?

Game has 1 loop only, isn't possible to complete game several times. I say about finishing game using one coin.

I left those things open for convenience - although whatever default dips are on the romset you have are probably prefered. (I assumed it was obvious cheats were prohibited.) You can use any controls interface you wish.

Best is use main romset with default settings. Romsets in playing are a bit different.

Yeah, I've almost beat them before, so the next time I got there, I went ahead and used my magic. (Forget it's there, otherwise.) Why not?   I don't think it's set on 'hardest' by default - games usually aren't.

Default difficulty is for normal play for normal people. Hardest difficulty is too hard to get all 20k bonuses (on arcades I played on hardest), it's not normal.

Okay, it's been two weeks and I think we've seen all the action we're going to get here for this game. So, first off, I'm going to backtrack and disregard the 'alternative' scoring thing for level because it's not easily shown. And, of course, the winner is Destructor. Now, he can pick a new game for the next two weeks - or I will. Deadline for new game is some time the 27th for game to begin on the 28th. Perhaps a guideline that comes to mind is no seriously hardware intensive games?

Since people here don't seem to have any problems with this game...... how the hell do you beat the third boss? (all those spinning buddha things piled up and moving toward you) I can never seem to destroy them quick enough to stop being pushed into the electric thingy. Any tips?
Never argue with an idiot, he'll just drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

You can jump inside buddas.
When buudas have 8 hits to destroy then hit upper and lower buddas 7 times. Now go near buddas, shot and jump forward,  two buddas will be destroyed, you will be under two next buddas (third and fourth). Now don't move stick and after some bumps you should be on second side of buddas. You must train when is right time to jump inside buddas because if you jump in wrong time buddas will throw you back.
If you want to see how to do it look my replay from MARP.

Or you can use magic for enter inside buddas but you loss 5k magic bonus:

Just keep jumping and firing like a buttonmashing madman and use the 'magic attack' when most of them are on the screen.

I've never cleared that area without the magic attack and can't recall ever seeing it done.
Any of the Shinobi Masters here done it?(And if so, ..how?)

Hats off to you Destructor, despite the bhudda exploit. (I consider that a cheat... it's exploiting a bug. You really CAN finish that stage without doing that).

The game for some reason didn't "come back to me" the way Rolling Thunder has, despite me playing the crap out of Shinobi back in the day. Every time I reached a new level, I had to re-learn the patterns again. I didn't have time to play very many games, so I only got up to about 92,000. (Normal difficulty, slow bullets, English language, 1 credit)

NO MORE!!

My video for 3rd boss. Video is good because show how to jump in second try if first try was failed.
