Parts Inventories

CheffoJeffo:

In the past couple of days, I have been reminded how out of touch I am with respect to the stores of parts that I have. Someone posted a WTB for a game PCB and I thought I had one, but didn't (or just haven't found it yet).

I went to work on my Tron project, only to find that both of the optic boards that I have are missing the stupid 74LS491 chips (well, the chips were there, but are both cracked).

The mailman showed up today with a pair of G07 chasses that I ordered from Grauwulf and I finally realized that I really don't have a handle on my own inventory of stuff.

For a brief period of time, I kept a post in a thread on another board about parts that I had, so that other folks could see what I had and make offers to buy, sell or trade. That didn't last too long.

How many folks keep some tally of the parts you have on hand and their condition ? What form does it take ?

I have the same problem.  No organization to any of it.

Me too.  I organized a bit of my stuff the other day and found a joystick I had no idea I had... lol  :dizzy:

When I first started, I kept an excel sheet with all my parts and what I paid for each item. That fell to the wayside fairly quickly. I have no method of keeping track of what comes and goes. I just keep a rough running track of net investment and try to keep arcade stuff piled on one side of the garage.

Heh . . . I started up my cab project a couple weeks ago after life and procrastination had put it on the back burner for a few years.  I came across a box from MCM or Mouser with a bunch of parts in it including diodes and chips and a breadboard and various other electronic parts.  I couldn't for the life of me figure out what in the hell it was for.  Finally a week or so later a vague, hint of what might be a memory has emerged through the clouds in my brain and I think it may have something to do with an LED driver board that Oscar of Oscar Controls designed and posted a "how to" on his website a while back.

Kind of hilarious -- especially considering what's out there today for driving LEDS (and considering the fact that all of my buttons are black and completely opaque.  They wouldn't allow any light to go through even if I put this thing together.
