Any issues with reusing micro switches?
(1/1)
Shieldwolf:
The reason I've been asking so many questions is because I'm giving my cab a major overhaul.  I'm rewiring the entire cab and I'm finally adding some p360s and some other cool stuff. Just curious is there any reason I should buy new cherry switches? The ones I have work, but the silver is looking a little tarnished. Should and Can I clean them? Does it really matter?

Have you ever seen the inside (or the outside for that matter) of an actual arcade cabinet? It's totally nasty. Reuse those switches, a little dirt won't hurt them. But if you're anal or have pride in how your work looks, by all means, clean them up!
Shieldwolf:
I figured I just wasn't sure if it would really effect gameplay. Pride is a close second. I was sick of the rat's nest that was my cp so I'm starting over with the wiring.

Jack Burton:
It shouldn't affect gameplay as long as they work.  Either they make contact or they don't, right?  I guess you could try going in and pressing the button 100 times and see if it registers all 100 at different push speeds, angles, and strengths.  Even 1 out of a 100 failures would be enough for me to replace the switch since I play a lot of fighting games.

Also, you might like cherry switches better if your cab has stiffer industrial microswitches installed.  Cheap operators had a habit of doing that sometimes.
