My 47 Mala setups + 64 Hi-res layout's
« on: August 18, 2010, 10:48:43 am »
I'm including my setup list here since it could help someone starting up, i'm all for helping out beginners. I doo remember when I started out and got silly spotty remarks over my questions (from a few people I wont mention here) I have included unfinished projects in the hope that I might get some advise. Also I'm gonna include some more info to the more special setups (*) at a later date. All the 47 first setups run perfect with standart buttons and Esc to close the games, and fullscreen without Windows to be seen. My setup is based around vintage gaming consoles and arcade machines. I have stayed away from computer consoles.

Setup name - (emu) - (execution in Mala)

Mame Arcade (Mame)

Atari Pong 1973 (Dice emu with bat)("%path%\%rom%.%ext%")****
Texas Instruments Ti-99 (Mess)(Bat)("%path%\%rom%.%ext%")*****

The next two setups are finished with some problems to be solved:
Action Max (Jaeger Tech. emu + Daphne emu, done with bats)("%path%\%rom%.%ext%")(This emulator clutters my layout when games are closed. BIG PROBLEM).******
Vector Games Arcade (AAE emu)(%rom%)(This emulator clutters my layout when games are closed. BIG PROBLEM).******
The next setups are 'in the making' (Hopefully!) I need help. If you have one of them running, I would like some advise!
Nintendo Virtual Boy (Can't get it running ?! What a time waster. I think I do something wrong). If you have this one running in Mala I would like advise!
V-Tech Creativisions (Emu?)
Nintendo Pokemon (Emu?)
Hartung Gamemaster (Emu?)
Sega Saturn (Emu? Setup parameters?)
Nintendo Game & Watch (Emu? None i think. Would be nice).
Nuon Arcade (?! Strange emu indeed).
Commodore Amiga  (Should be straight forward but making all the snapshots turn me off. If you know were to get them i would like to know)(Emu?)
Commodore 64 (Should be straight forward but making all the snapshots turn me off. If you know were to get them i would like to know)(Emu?)
3D Shooters (Will be classic 3-D shooters like Doom).
All setup's close games by ESC. I will put info into the list regarding using Mala Hotkey. All setups go to fullscreen at gamestart except NeoGeo CD that needs an extra press on key '1'. A few emulators needs settings done outside Mala the first time they run. I will come back to this later.

*Daemon program needs install in order to read discs files. Precommand: "C:\xxxx\xxxx\daemon.exe" -unmount 0 -mount 0,"%path%\%rom%.%ext%". Post Command: "c:\xxxx\xxxx\daemon.exe -unmount 0". xxxx=your folders name

**Needs install of program 'Auto Hot Key'. see post: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=101649.0

*** (Done with bats since otherwise layout clutters when games are closed. This is setup specific. Other pc setups might not need this).

**** Bats each read 'dice pong' / 'dice rebound' / 'dice gotcha'. There must be nomore than this in the bat file.(3 games, but important as they seem to be the very first arcade machines with a monitor). The Dice emu has fixed key controles. Can be changed by using Autohotkey program.

****** The clutter problem is down to two setups  with games that have no real value stil I hope that the problems will be solved later somehow. I have made a solution: having autoHotKey automatically swapping layout one place forward and then back to the chosen layout (very fast) when a game is closed by escape key. But this is visible. Not the best solution. I'm not shure i wan't this. The ActionMax emu is mouse driven! No control right now. I need a solution for this.[/color]How to make ActionMax movies for frontend easily: Use a program like Prism Video Converter (very good!). Open original .m2v actionmax files in Prism (look at the name) and choose convert to mpeg4. Then convert. Now there's a movie for Mala, just rename. There's only 5 games so it takes very little time.

I've used Prism Video Converter to tune all my game video's. It's a small but good program. Be online when converting. Then Prism will get the right codings if they are special.

Wow.. Action Max. I actually owned one of those and had all but one of the tapes. (Not including the unreleased Fright Night). They weren't terribly fun. I'm surprised you'd want to spend time on getting them working, as little replay value as they have.

I remember as a kid The Rescue of Pops Ghostly always kinda creeped me out, but I wasn't sure why.

Yes your right. Not much replay value (But I did not know this, and I'm a big Laserdisc games fan and as such I feel I need them). I made it due to that I needed to find more projects for Mala, and it took very little time to get it running due to some good links on the net. But other than the clutter problem there's also a control problem. The emu is mouse driven as it is right now. . I've written to the maker to try to convince them to included keyboard control like Daphne has, but it's a bit silly really...

Good work!
To emulate Commodore Amiga, the best emulator is Winuae! You can find it in http://www.winuae.net/

You can find some snaps in the next link http://www.retrovicio.com/tutoriales/mala-configuracion-y-uso-winuae
It is a tutorial I made some time in spanish. I want to make a new one in both Spanish and English.

By the way, I have not seen Spectrum emulator. That is unforgivable!

Greetings

How would keyboard support even work? They were light-gun only.

Yes you are right. And I know this. It's just my fantasy spinning wild.
What I wanted was really just to have the games in the cab. I want my colletion to be a kind of woking museum.
And the ActionMax have a place in arcade/gaming history. (and yes I know they are tape's not discs, but the result is a bit like laserdiscs).

I have Saturn running on SSF 0.11 R5 with the command line of ("%path%\%rom%.%ext%")

I use the following AHK script.  I have a GP-Wiz 40, so I use joy to key to map my exit button to Alt-F4, but I think ESC will exit it.

Code: [Select]
Run, C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exe -unmount 0
Sleep 2000
Run, C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exe -mount 0`, "%1%"
Sleep 2000
SetWorkingDir, C:\Emulators\Programs\SSF
run, joytokey.exe
Runwait, SSF.exe
run, taskkill /f /im joytokey.exe

I also have Virtual Boy running using Mednafen 0.9WIP and (-fs 1 "%path%\%rom%.%ext%")
