Moon Patrol Williams Cocktail
« on: July 28, 2008, 11:14:51 pm »
So I won this project Williams Moon Patrol cocktail on ebay yesterday for $30...! . Haven't picked it up yet, hopefully this weekend. Looks like it will need a monitor, new glass, artwork for the P1/P2 buttons next to the coin door, some paint and TLC. If the boards work I will probably keep it original. If not, I may put a horizontal multi board in there.

Question - what monitor did these use? 13" or 19"? I read somewhere that Williams used odd sized t-molding for their cocktails. Any of you guys have any tips?

Here are the ebay pix:

Nice score, man.

Judging by the bolt pattern, I'd say that takes a 13" monitor.  It would be easier to tell in person, but it looks smaller.

Definitely.  You can see the dirt pattern from the frame.

I can't say I know of that specific config of that specific game but there's nothing inherently unique about it.  There are tons of good restoration threads on raster cocktails that can help you.

The only thing to point out is that since that game was developed by Irem, the hardware is not typical "Williams" hardware. (unless I'm wrong??)

Hehe the wild thing is that my other cocktail restoration project also happens to be IREM based - see:

Question - would it be blasphemous to "upgrade" this machine to a 19" monitor? Original was 13", however they did use 19" monitors for the Robotrons in this same cabinet.

13" just seems so tiny...

I don't think so.  It's an upgrade.  Cool so long as you don't have to make major mods to the cabinet.

Found a Moon Patrol cocktail for sale on eBay with a 19" monitor in it. The cab is slightly different as well. Wonder if the 19" one started life as a Robotron...? Anyway here is the comparison pic with a 19" vs the 13" bezel in mine:

I made a replica Moon Patrol full-sized Mame cab recently, but I have never messed with the cocktails at all. Yours looks good, though, If I may, I suggest keeping it original and restoring it as it was intended from the factory.

If the Moon Patrol board set doesn't work I can fix it for you. I have one here that I repaired and I picked up an original dedicated upright cabinet at the last Superauctions.com auction in Dallas to put it in.

Sweet, I'll keep that in mind Channel! I am a ways away from tackling the electrical side of things - need to complete the aesthetic restoration first then tackle the monitor and boardset. In fact still need to find a monitor to drop in there; most likely a 13"...
