If you like that, then you might like this guy. His photographs are simply amazing. Best I've ever seen.

That is freaking awesome! I love that kind of stuff.
I'll toss in a classic but goodie. Chernobyl.
My laptop (at home) has a whole slew of links with this kind of stuff. I'll dig a few up.

The Chernobyl story itself is just downright frightening and eerie. I've spent a lot of time reading about the accident, what caused it, how it could have been prevented, and how long the world will be feeling it. I mean, the fact that radiation levels in SWEEDEN were noticeably higher when the accident occured is astonishing. (It's also the only way that the rest of the world found out so quickly as the communist government in Russia was trying to keep it hush-hush). The whole incident also shows how stupid some people can be and what happens when cost-cutting is put into place in situations that absolutely can not do that. The design of that reactor was atrocious and should never have been approved in the first place.
I think what is more amazing is how the wildlife in the area has persevered and come back with a vengance despite the elevated radiation levels. I would actually like to see the area someday even though I do know how incredibly dangerous it can be.

A number of years ago I was a security guard and one of my jobs was patrolling an old abandoned resort in Santa Barbara. It was the strangest thing because it's a huge resort (has to be close to 100 acres) located on the beach and in the office they had an aerial photo of it from the 1950's and it looked like a really nice place. Now all the buildings are still there, but for they are all gutted, all of the concrete from the pathways, pools, tennis courts, etc. had been removed, and grass, weeds, and shrubbery are overgrown everywhere.
It was eerie walking around the place in the middle of the night, but also kind of cool.

I dont know why this stuff is so fascinating! Ive been spending a lot of time in the couple days looking at this type of stuff. Abandoned amusement parks seem to be the most interesting IMHO. http://sbno.illicitohio.com/
Is a good one with 3 or 4 in depth amusement park tours. The site is also maintained by the same guy who did the Tyson mansion
