Metropolis lost parts found !

Sprucemoose:
The film is a real classic.  Its kind of an adjustment to watch black and white at first, but once you get into the film its pretty good.  I have watched it a few times and pick up something different each viewing.

I've only seen short clips here and there. I completely forgot about this film.

What version is that DVD cover for? Seems a little early to be releasing a DVD when the entire film has just been found.

That's the version that was "edited" by Paramount. The edited out parts are now found, so I guess I'll wait until the full-size release :)

The movie is public domain, and that link is supposedly a fairly robust cut.

I believe under the new Copyright laws, this was renewed and extended. Copyright for this movie won't expire until 2022, not 2007.

Irrelevant.  The original movie is public domain.

Say what? Coming from you, it's no surprise. Movie fell out of copyright, then was restored in 1998. Check into Golan v. Gonzales.

The link he posted is from a site that only legally hosts movies, so whether or not it's actually public domain doesn't really matter since apparently everyone can still legally download and watch it.

Taking a look at the details page on that site, it doesn't seem to list anything about the licensing or copywrite of the movie and according to their faq: "If there's no license, you should assume that the only thing you're allowed to do with it is watch it."
