European vs US cabs

<< < (2/7) > >>

Q*Bert_OP:
American cabs are big, bulky, and heavy. Think of the "Midway" style cabinet from the 90s. Showcase cabs? Those beasts are a real :censored: to move. Most American arcade cabs today weigh 500+ lbs.

Japanese cabs are almost always sit-down style. They are small, but usually house bigger monitors(29" and up)

European cabs are generally smaller than US upright cabs, but slightly bigger than US cabaret cabs. They also look nicer than US cabs, IMHO.

What about Canadian cabs?

LOL, nice comments guys, really :applaud:

Blah blah Americans fat, blah Americans big car, blah blah Americans big arcade.

To play stereotypes I guess all Euros have hot pink joysticks & a 19 inch monitor on their sit down candy cab in their "flat" because small cabs are all they can fit in their Peugeot's as they gossip at tea time about Amy Winehouse.

Build another wall, run from another war, start another IRA, create more abortion pills, find another prince in a Hitler costume, cry about a pro-gun Beatle & make another Harry Potter Movie but for gods sake don't build a large arcade.

Anyway, to quote a wise man:

Well it comes down to space really and how agreeable your partner is..

I have lived and bought both American and British houses, and the space and size of the rooms differs vastly.  My previous American two story car garage is bigger than my current house in England, and I'm not counting the house or the rest of the property and land.  Probably everything included would represent the entire block I live on.   :laugh2:

Also US houses tend to be single story big, unlike bungalows in the UK, so arcade cabs can be of any size in the US, but you have some constraints in the UK.

My arcade cab in the US was a converted Ikari Warriors, and was bloody heavy, but I could get it into the garage, clean it up, and dolly it into the house without too much difficulty.  If I wanted to get the same machine into my UK house, I would have to take doors off, probably rip wallpaper and get it stuck in the living room door.

I just wallpapered my hall for 2k so I don't see me ripping it any time soon.  But US hallways are bigger and you can move stuff in and out much easier.  Heck I must have house moved over 30 times so far (No BS).

We don't ship US furniture over anymore.  :laugh2:

So I want a cab over here, but I have size issues to get in.  Also it has to be light as I have to get it upstairs up a narrow staircase (US ones are huge) and sit it in the small bedroom.  I can take it apart like my Ikea furniture, or I can build a small cab.  It would have to be a cabaret, and if you have taken an old cab apart before and tried to put it back together.....

Thus the reason why UK houses have small cabs with small CPs and US ones have monster cabs with huge CPs.  I cannot say that is verbatim for all houses in the UK as I'm sure there are bigger houses down south, but up north our dwellings are smaller.

That's why I like building my sub mini cabs and why I can shift them on Ebay much faster as most of the homes they go to are small.  My mate has a fisherman's cottage.  One room up and two down house.  Getting a monster cab in there would be nigh impossible.  But a sub mini?  Sold!

My next cab is on the same lines.  I have 8x20 inches to spare for a base, a very slim build too.  But if I was back home it would be a 4 player Simpsons cab with trackballs and spinners, flashng lights etc.   ;D
