Donkey Kong back door pictures/drawings needed.
« on: June 20, 2008, 01:38:39 pm »
I'm almost done with my DK restore, but I am missing the back door. I'd like to recreate one that is as close to the real thing as possible. Anyone have any photos or drawings of the DK back door?  I'm not sure of the detail at the bottom where the "vent" or whatever it is as well as exactly how it stays in place at the bottom.

Thanks!

I could use this info as well since My DK is also missing the back.

If you find the pile of back doors pick me up one for my Ms Pacman.  Seriously, where do these things go?   :dunno    Maybe the same place as socks?

edit for spelling

Here are the pics of the vent on my backdoor. Doesn't look like it would be to hard to fabricate.

Great! Thanks. BTW...I SCOURED google image search, and unless I'm a search engine moron, there are zero pictures of DK back doors out there.

Cool, thanks. Those will help a lot. Is there a strip of wood missing at the bottom? I don't see what would hold the bottom of the door in place?

I have no idea; good question though since I've been wondering the same thing. My DK cab had a busted lock so the back door was screwed on.

I think the bottom of the back door sits in a groove in the back side of the cab.  I will have to look when i get home in a few hours.

I just checked mine and you are right, there is a little groove there that I hadn't noticed before. However, it looks like the groove is smaller than the thickness of the plywood used for the back, so there must be small section of the bottom of the door that is planed/routed thinner than the rest of the door.
I'm guessing here, so correct me if I'm wrong.  :dunno

**edit for momentary lapse in intelligence...also known as stupidity  :laugh2:

Looks like 3/8" plywood would be the correct thickness?

Here is a pic of my DK back door.  You are looking at the outside.  The indention is 1/4" deep and 5/16" high.

I do not have the wood working knowledge to tell you how this is achieved, but if a guy had the right tools he might be able to make a little money making back doors.

My DK back door measures midway between 7/16" and 1/2", so I would assume that it is actually 1/2".
