There is quite a bit of difference. With a personal account, I can accept bank transfer and paypal funds payments free of charge. With an upgrade, I get charged a full fee scale even when a person pays with paypal funds.

They assume that everyone who sells on ebay is a power seller business person. That is not the case and totally defeats the original purpose of ebay. I have now sold twice on ebay since I have been a member

I am honestly shocked that there hasn't been a mass lawsuit against them for their monopolization of the "service" they provide and their "cahoots" with E-Bay.  There seems to be plenty of ground for it these days.

Ginsu Victim:
It has certainly discouraged me from ever selling anything on there.

Probably because there are no grounds for that kind of lawsuit. They would argue that Google's service is enough to break the monopolization of PayPal.

If anything, there should have been a class action lawsuit based on their overall business practices. http://paypalsucks.com/ is just one of several places that despise PayPal practices.

RayB:
It costs about 5% to receive payments via Paypal as a verified business account.

Sending payments costs nothing.
