I left Christine off my Carpenter list. Was never a fan of the movie much (especially compared to the book)

Well, seeing as how you nearly all my favorites (Buckaroo,  They Live, Valley Girl, etc.) I'll throw ina couple I think got missed.  How about:

Space Hunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone (to my knowledge was the first film Molly Ringwald was in)

My Chaueffer  (Deborah Foreman)
April Fool's Day  (Deborah Foreman)
Runaway  (Tom Selleck / Gene Simmons)

As for kids movies, I don't recall either of these being listed:

The Great Muppett Caper
The Muppetts Take Mahatten

This topic comes just in time. I'm on an 80's movie hunt too. Curiously, I saw "Forbidden Kingdom" yesterday which has a very 80's flavor and could be called "Karate Kid 2008".

I saw Forbidden Kingdom in the theater because we were too late to see Iron Man. It was pretty good, and the first thing I thought was "this would have been a KICK ASS movie for me back when I was a kid". So in a way, it brought on a nostalgic feeling for me too.

The wife saw it a week ago at home and loved it.

lol Labyrinth. A young and very do-able Jennifer Connely. And lets not forget David Bowies noticeably huge package in tights.

Please, lets forget David Bowie in tights.
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

I can't believe no one has mentioned No Retreat, No Surrender. Best worst movie I've seen in a long time. I have heard that there was a 2 and a 3. I would love to see them.

Actually, as a kid I liked that movie too! I do remember it being pretty crappy but I still liked it. For weeks after, I would try and arm wrestle everyone and put my fingers over my thumb. :) (Doesn't help for crap)

We watched Beetlejuice over the weekend. I actually did not care too much for this movie as a kid. I think it was just over my head back then. I do remember liking alot of the SFX though.

I now realize it is yet another awesome 80's movie that is still good!

When Burton was still making good movies. Pee Wee's Big Adventure is another great 80s movie. (Especially the Danny Elfman scores on both films)

Heh, ran into my first "shoulda left it as a childhood memory movie".
The Monster Squad

Me and the wife both loved this as kids. I can't put it any simpler - this movie sucks! If you were an 80's child, do yourself a favor and do not watch this again. Savor the warm, fuzzy memories if you have them.

I'm going to put this nicely....

YOU'RE OUTTA YOUR ---smurfing--- MIND!

I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, and my wife had never seen it. We bought the DVD and I still love it, and she really enjoyed it immensely.

Shane Black and Fred Dekker? How can you beat that? That's 80's goodness!

Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon... Sho' Nuff!!

But I am a bit biased   ::)
I applaud you, Leroy. That was a great finish. Not quite the ending I had in mind, but it was a great finish. You see a .45 will put an end to all this kung fu crap. All it takes is one little bullet. So take your final bow, scum sucker.  ~Eddie Arcadian - Self-proclaimed Video Game King & Bruce Leroy's Arch-Rival as seen in Berry Gordy's hit movie The Last Dragon

Thanks to this thread I watched "The Never Ending Story" with my young kids tonight... man it really brought back memories, like how much I ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- myself when that wolf jumped out (I was young ok :)

My 5 year old son was pretty scared of it too, which is pretty impresive considering how desensitized they all are these days because of special effects, TV and video games.

They don't make movies like they used to eh... Best of all, I actually 'got' it this time and understand the meaning of the title... so no more smartass 'but it actually DOES end so thats stupid heheh' comments... ah the ignorance of youth.

I remember seeing 1984 as a kid. It scared the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of me, and I was terrified my sister would be killed while at her high school. I think I might have cried when Michael J. Fox got stabbed. He's Marty McFly for goodness sakes!   :laugh2:

Watched Gremlins last night.  It was just as I remembered it, and just as good. I've been noticing the names involved in some of these movies too. It seems that Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg had their hands in the best kid movies. That's a no-brainer though huh?

I had to watch the bar scene and theater scene several times just to appreciate all of the different Gremlins.

The kids and I watched 'Big' the other night and really enjoyed it.

Not for the kids, but another movie that I thought was great is Less Than Zero with Robert Downey Jr. I need to rent that and watch it again.

Not for the kids, but another movie that I thought was great is Less Than Zero with Robert Downey Jr. I need to rent that and watch it again.

That's funny I just saw that for the first time last weekend on cable and I couldn't stop watching it.  Definitely some good 80s cinema there.  I also still love Big.

I just watched Black Rain for the first time about a month ago and it was pretty good.
